It's like comparing a Porsche to a basket of fruit.
While I agree with you, the funny thing is that both a Porsche and a basket of fruit play a part in Friends
You should visit Josh Radnor's board and see how this same discussion is resolving over there.
P.S.- I don't agree that Barney is Joey. They are both womanizers but Barney iswait for itlegendary!

lmao you're right, I didn't even think about that- I guess I've seen every episode of Friends so many times (hey, I own the 10 season box set and I'm bored a lot) that those are the two items that came to mind!
Could have also been a basket of mini-muffins 😛 ("The small one.")

In what way is Marshall like Chandler?? What a stupid thing to say! Chandler was sarcastic and somewhat bitter, whereas Marshall is a very positive and theatrical kind of guy.
Anyway, they're both pretty weak characters, but Ross was funnier.

This question should be posted "Which one do you dislike less?"
Ross was a spoiled, insecure geek who's only admirers were the Rachel-wannabes.
Ted is an insecure semi-geek who provides the POV for the show.
These two (2) shows are very similar in their set-ups, but very different in tone.
"Friends"' male characters were merely "Deus ex machina" to achieve the desired resultsbabies and fashion. The show was a showpiece for the three (3) women characters who attracted a similar audience as "Sex and the City". "HIMYM" is much more gender-balanced. Both shows are well written, well acted, etc. Each has it's fans and critics. I do not believe many viewers were viewers based on Josh Radnor or David Schwimmer, whether you think either is AWESOME or wait 4 it
          ANNOYING.

Very enlightened and well-written response, mrellim. I agree with your opinion on the differences between the shows.
I personally think that How I Met Your Mother is the better show of the two, because I relate to it more. And also it doesn't have any of the (mostly) annoying characters. That being said I'm gonna have to say that I like Ross more as a character. He is one of the two main characters in Friends that I actually find somewhat funny, while Ted gets overshadowed by atleast three members of the main cast of HIMYM.

Ross was always my favourite on friends even though everyone preferred others but form everyone that I knew I was always ridiculed because I found his character not only the funniest but deepest one out of all of them and I still stand by my statement that he was the best part of the show friends. With that said, I choose him over Ted Mosby.

First of all. Both sitcoms are awesome. I can watch any episode, any time and in any place but my favourite is Ross. After Chandler he was my favourite character on Friends. The awkward situations he got himself into, the huffs, puffs and hissy fits and even the random moments where you just think WTF!. And for me David Schwimmer was the best actor on the set, whether it was funny moments or serious emotional moments, he always had it nailed. Whereas with Ted's character, he isn't really that funny in comparison, even though the show is supposed to be based around him with the other members of the cast playing supporting roles. I cant help but notice in HIMYM, the character pecking order is Barney, Marshall, Robin, Ted and then Lily. When looking at characters from series, soaps, sitcoms etc. I always ask myself "would I still watch this show if this person wasn't part of it". Friends without Ross wouldn't really be the same and I wouldn't look at the show in the same way if he left. But whereas HIMYM, without the character of Ted I could still watch the other 4 cast members in action every week. I know HIMYM couldn't carry on without Ted as its his story, his life. But if after they showed how Ted met his kids mother and then he and her moved on. I would watch a show with just Barney, Marshall, Robin and Lily in it.
Oh and the comparison between Ross and Ted, I understand where you are coming from, I often think Ross and Ted are similar, Barney and Joey are similar, Robin and Rachel are similar and Lily is similar with a mix of Phoebe and Monica. But its just subtle similarities. If you watch a few episodes of Friends and then a few episodes of HIMYM. You will notice the differences between the characters outweigh the similarities.
Rant over, as you may tell I like these two shows lol

Because HIMYM is my absolute favourite show at the moment, it's hard for me to make an unbiased decision. I'm gonna go with Ted though, I love that guy.

I did not like Ross at all! He has his moments but he is so whiny and annoying. So I would have to go with Ted on this one.. I also like HIMYM better then Frends in general.
But niether Ted nor Ross can stand toe to toe with J.D on Scrubs.

LMAO I thought this thread was gonna say 'Who is the most annoying' out of them, not who is the best! I have only seen a handful of eps of HIMYM but I HATED Ted, he turned me off the whole show (although I didn't like the rest of it much either) such a whining little bitch! And Ross got much better in later seasons but in the first 3 I wanted to punch him lol.
