I understand there was a scheduling conflict, so she couldn't do the part (IMDb says otherwise, but that's how reliable IMDb is). But I kept trying to interest myself in the other characters rather than Janeway, because she was just so annoying in that part. Janeway spent all her time trying to sound tough that she became rather off-putting.
They needed Tracy in the part. As she later showed in Babylon 5, she made a great captain.
You will probably disagree. That's the nature of discussions they have two sides. -

I think she would have made a great Capt. Janeway, I just couldn't get into the series because I didn't care for the Capt. Janeway they had, I think I watched 3 episodes.

I've liked Kate Mulgrew in other parts, but she just didn't "fit." I remember feeling awkward when they did an episode to try to "soften" her character. Get the right actress to begin with!
I doubt I watched all the episodes, either. I made it past three, though!
