Sizemore's life may well be a train-wreck, but the guy is still capable of terrific work. And really it's no different to producers putting their faith in Robert Downey Jr or Mickey Rourke a few years back, both of whom were beset by similar problems.
As for the height thing, maybe they've stood him on a box or placed him uphill at all times?
Seriously though, tall people have short kids and short people have tall kids - genetics isn't that exact. Maybe Momoa is supposed to be a throwback?
He certainly looks like one

If it helps lend any veracity to the two actors pretend father son relationship I'm 5'5" my daughter is 6ft. That comes in handy when I want to reach stuff off the top shelf at the grocery store.
