Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Cicely Tyson

    pithylady — 23 years ago(February 08, 2003 04:10 PM)

This tiny, almost frail actress is one of my favorite perfomers. I am never less than overwhelmed by the integrity and truthfulness she brings to her characters. How I wish she could begin her career over again. What a treat to see her as a young Leticia Musgrove in Monster's Ball or as Celie in The Color Purple.
What do you think makes us human? I really want to know.

I totally agree, she is extremely talented, and again, another one that was passed up for an Oscar. She has definitely been a pioneer and one of the most talented actresses, that has paved the way for African-American actresses in the industry today.

She deserves an honorary Oscar in my opinion. There are so many great actresses, famous and some unknown by the general public. Cicely Tyson is great in every movie she is in. I have never seen her give a bad performance/portrayal. It's never hit or miss with her. When you read her name in the credits, you know she is playing a positive, strong, intelligent woman. I saw Idlewild tonight and as usual, she was this great Jesus-fearing woman.
I particularly loved her in the women of Brewster's Place when her daughter on screen was played by Robin Givens. The monologue she spoke to Robin was phenomenal.
I pray one day, I will get the opportunity to act in a movie with her.

I totally agree. Cicely is an amazing actress because she always brings so much depth into her characters. I really loved her role in "Diary of a Mad Black Woman."

Ms. Cicely's acting has changed my life. I watched her again last night as "Jane Pittman" and I was reminded that as a child I saw this movie and cried. It was a wonderful history lesson for me and literally shaped my views of life. She's incredible. So very talented. A true gift to this planet.
                  Big hug,
                  Jeff Vaughn

I loved her in Fried Green Tomatoes. "Secret's in the sauce", that always makes me laugh.

IS Miss Tyson "almost frail?" For many years, she was a long-distance runner and hence quite tough.
Perhaps she stopped running as she aged, and no one remains as fit in his/her 70s as at 40-something. But nothing I've read suggests that the passing years made Tyson "almost frail."
