Watching WITH A SONG IN MY HEART on TCM right now, had no idea he was in this movie, and what a powerful bit of acting he does in just two brief scenes.
So to the topic at hand. I believe her death was accidental, but I suspect there is much more to the story than any of us knows. I just hope and pray RW will make his peace before he passes over.

I think the captain's story that RJ knew Natalie was in the water and let her die makes more sense than RJ's own story. Also, based on RJ's book, he comes off to me as a hot-head who is capable of a crime of passion. Whenever someone dies under suspicious circumstances, the person's spouse should always be looked at by police, but that did not happen at the time. However, I think that may have been for the best, because RJ went on to raise Natalie's and his daughters. If RJ had gone to jail at the time, it probably would not have been in their best interest. Now, though, I would like to see the truth come out if it is possible. Christopher Walken may not have witnessed Natalie's death, but he could at least come out and say what is the real version of the argument he had with RJ that night (whether Davern or RJ told the truth of it).

I think he was so mad at her that he may have left her in the water to die (whether he had pushed her in or she accidentally fell). How could he not of heard her screaming? A woman on another boat heard her cries for help.
He admitted that he wanted to kill Warren Beatty when Warren was her lover. He said he sat outside of Warren's home with a gun in his hand intent on killing him (from his book). So he definitely is capable of killing. And if he was mad/jealous on the night that Natalie died, then he could have pushed her into the water. Or, she could of fell and he ignored her cries. I think that he was involved in some way. But there is really no way to ever know! Such a sad and tragic case.
