Great actor, definitely underrated, but not the best in the world.

        Just ONE of the best.
Hard work doing what he does but from the body of work, many casting directors like him as do weekend couch pots.
        Plus he's from Syracuse

AMEN, Lqdiamondz, except I have one "best" I hold above him Frank Langella, who is equally undervalued by Hollywood. Both my beloved Franks add quality to any piece of crap they're cast in and it seems like Hollywood uses them for just that purpose all too many times. I'm a dedicated Langellite, but never made the connection (until your post) that Frank Whaley is stuck in the same "character actor" boat. More times than not, they're the only ones keeping whatever boat they're rowing afloat. MY Frank (Langella) does, at least, get the kudos he so deserves when he's doing stage, and thank God that's where his heart lies. I don't know anything about Frank Whaley's stage work, but plan to look it up now. I admit with great shame that I've taken him for granted far too long.

And another connection between them is that Frank Whaley is from Syracuse, NY and Frank Langella attended Syracuse University

Yesterday I was shocked. I watched Vacancy, what a great performance of Frank.
              Really good on this movie.

I agree, Frank is the most versatile and talented actor in the world. I own most of his films and shows too and I'm also very grateful of him. He makes me laugh and weep as well. He's awesome. He's unlike any other actor. He's the best. I love his directing and writing as well. He REALLY blew me away in The Jimmy Show esp! Whoever doesn't know who he is is deprived! Love Frank!

He reminds me of another actor, William Fichtner. The kind of actor that has a long list of roles on many tv shows and movies, usually with a small part but he gives it his all and always leaves a memorable performance.
