[Hope I do this right!]
Jack Warden > 'The Verdict' > Paul Newman
Newman > 'The Drowning Pool' > Joanne Woodward
Woodward > 'Sybil' > Sally Field
Field > 'Soapdish' > Whoopi Goldberg
Goldberg > 'The Associate' > WIEST
[Although .. Warden has direct connections to Wiest in 'September' and 'Bullets Over Broadway'.]

Tom Tully > 'Mothman Prophecies' > Richard Gere
Gere > 'Autumn in New York' > Anthony LaPaglia
LaPaglia > 'Summer of Sam' > Mira Sorvino
Sorvino > 'Mighty Aphrodite' > Michael Rapaport [bet you thought I would say Woody Allen :-)]
Rapaport > 'The Scout' > WIEST

Maybe I'm not playing this correctly .. shouldn't we have at least 6 degrees of separation? And does Dianne count as the 6th? Also, it keeps going back to "Hannah & Her Sisters" is that mandatory?
[Laura Dern also has a direct connection to Dianne from "I Am Sam"; therefore, no separation.]
Am I being too "anal" and spoiling the fun? I'll skip if so. Just curious. -

Jeffrey Tambor - Twenty Good Years - John Lithgow
John Lithgow - Santa Clause - Dudley Moore
Dudley Moore - Foul Play - Chevy Chase
Chevy Chase - Cops and Robbersons - Dianne Wiest
There maybe an easier way, but there it is.
Next: Charlie Chaplin
Is it time for my medication or yours?
