How do the presenters usually pronounce her last name? I'm talking about such as when she won the Academy Awards.
See, I have the same last name as her. I was just wondering if she (and/or the presenters) pronounce it differently than my family does. -

Wow .. aren't you lucky to have the same last name as one of the greatest actresses who ever lived?! Unfortunately, I have never seen Di accept any of her awards (I'm a late career fan). However, I first heard her last name pronounced on the Director's Commentary to "Little Man Tate". Jodie Foster pronounced it 'Weest', as in rhyming with 'niece'. John Larroquette also pronounced it 'Weest' in "The Making of the 10th Kingdom". Before I saw both of those, I thought it was pronounced 'Wise-t', as in rhyming with 'ice'.
How do you pronounce yours? -

Oops, I completely forgot about this thread!
Heh, I'm surprised they pronounce it that way since a lot of people tend to butcher it! Weest is the way my family says it as well. The true pronunciation (according to my grandfather, who is from Germany and speaks German) is something along the lines of Veescht, but Weest is the simplified Americanized version many with the last name use. It didn't help much, as people still get it wrong and pronouce it like you said (Wise-t) but I'd probably do the same thing if I didn't have it as a last name so it's nothing I get upset over. Only time I get annoyed is if people completely disregard the i altogether and say West! Heh heh. -

"West"? That is severely retarded. Are people (Americans.) nowadays too ADHD to notice the other letter there that completely changes the pronunciation? That's almost as bad as when people pronounce Sarah McLachlan's last name as though it has three or four extra letters to add a completely nonexistent F sound - "MacLaughlin" - pretentious dumbasses.
