You are right, she is Orthodox Cristian as me.
Her Father is from my country Bulgaria. He lived in a place called Rodopi. This is actualy a mountain
located in the south part of Bulgaria. The people who live there are half bulgarian half muslim,it is complicated thing, but they are Bulgarians,so her mother is Greek and her father Bulgarian. -

her Dad is or was of the muslim faith. He is a Pomak which is a Bulgarian Muslim. But in some photos, Rita Wilson wears a cross (her Mum is orthodox Christian) so obviously she is not a Muslim, only partly through her origins.

which is a turkish name with a typical Bulgarian suffix. Every Bg male last name ends with an "ov", which most people change to off when living in the States , France or England.
In summary, her mom's Greek and her dad's a bulgarian muslim, or as someone already stated, a Pomak.
The person who said that Rodopi's in Greece: there is a small part of it in Greece, but, dude, you sereously need a couple geography lessons
The larger part of Rodopi's home with us lol -

Her father is a Bulgarian Pomak, which means he is a Muslim. Her mother is Greek and a member of the Greek Orthodox church. Genrally mothers have more of a say on what religion the kid should have so she identifies more with her Greek side and is also Greek Orthodox.

She was married in the Greek Orthodox church, and at least one member of the pair has to be Orthodox in order for that to be possible. Tom Hanks is not Orthodox, so. . . well, you can figure out the rest.
Also remember that she is responsible for getting "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" to the screen due to that Greek aspect of her past.
Anyway, I went to Hollywood High School with her, and thus know where she went to church. -

Wow, so, she's part Greek Orthodox/Muslim, and she married a man who converted from (I could be wrong, but I believe) Judaism to Greek Orthodox. That's a very interesting religious history of her family. In the end though, if she and Tom are happy together, and can stay together in a world where divorce is ridiculously high (especially amongst actors), well, more power to them!

I am Turkish but you are wrong. Is more complicated that that. It is a biblical name (ABraham) that is pronounced by BOTH Christians and Muslims from that part of the world as Ibrahim.
And the "ov" is just patronymicized, which was done by the authorities. Bulgarian side of the border, Ibrahimov, Greek side of the border, Ibrahimou, Turkish side of the border, Ibrahimouglu

Maybe somehow late to reply, but she is half Greek. The other half is Pomak. Pomaks are slavic Muslims. mainly living in Bulgaria and Greece, who converted to Islam 600 years ago. So, if she is Orthodox Cristian, I guess she has gone back to her roots

JESUS CHRIST (basically), who cares? You're all wrong anyway, the very concept of petty religions is an insult to the universe we live in;

JESUS CHRIST IS A PERSON AND SHOULDNT BE USED AS A CUSS WORD. But your right, its not about reigions, but about a personal relationship with God The Father, God the son ( Jesus Christ) and God the Holy Spirit

In that area, Thrace, her father ancestors could have been all Greeks, all Bulgarians, or all Turks, or any combination.
Christian Greeks who converted to Islam in areas later take over by Bulgaria are also call Pomaks, so are may purely Turkish people in Bulgaria.
She probably knows her own family history and this probably is the source of why she identifies as Greek.
