I know it's silly, but bloom is hardly a very common name, and it would be a reason that a a totally talentless actor made it into the movies! Or that he slept himself up, I guess

Uh, no. Claire's last name isn't really 'Bloom.' It was originally 'Blumenthal,' but her father got it changed quite early on to 'Blume' and then in the late '30s her mother had the spelling changed to 'Bloom.' Oh, and actually, 'Bloom' is a fairly common lasb68t name. Not that there's anything remotely common about Ms. Bloom's extraordinary, unhuman talent. She is the Goddess of Theatre.

No problem! Always in a position to help a fellow fan [or fan's mother, for that matter
]! I don't know any Blooms personally, but if you look up 'Bloom' in our phonebook, the list is practically 3 pages long! So I guess it's a common last name? Oh well. Glad I could be of service to you!

I am from Holland and we have a word 'Bloem' (which sounds exactly likes 'Bloom') which means 'Flower'. So that might explain the origins of the name and the fact it's not uncommon, esp. in the United States where there must be lots of people with Dutch anchestors.
