great actor? yes. greatest actor ever? no.
the thing is he can play intelligent or dopey, good or bad, funny or serious. he's a great actor because he's very versatile. not only can he play these roles, but he can play them well. also i think it helps that he's one of those actors who have been around for a long time, but haven't become too jaded. if you ever see him off-set in behind-the-scenes clips you can tell he truly enjoys his job. after all these years he still loves acting, and i think that really comes though in his performances. -

I don't know about being the greatest actor ever, but certainly my favourite actor. He can be a cowboy, teacher, womaniser & ad executive & dopey mechanic & the Sandman & is convincing @ all of them. Also his deep sexy voice is enough to make me go weak at the knees.

He's a character actor which is what makes him great. Not the greatest but great. He can play a wide range of roles, which, in Hollywood, is almost non existent these days. Most people can't even play themselves on film much less take on a wild part. The man is talented and deserves where he is today.
