It never occurred to me to look before but there is, of course, a wiki page list of posthumous nominations and awards. Actually that may not be quite correct - they may have been alive when nominated but they were certainly dead by Oscar Night.
Anyway, that quibble aside, other nominations include Heath Ledger (won), James Dean, Ralph Richardson, Chadwick Boseman, Spencer Tracey and Jeanne Eagels (a name I know but I can't remember seeing her in anything). There are other famous names but these were the folks in front of the camera.

I actually saw Eagels’ performance a few months back and she’s very good indeed, perhaps the best of this largely very impressive group. A powerful performance that stands comparison with Bette Davis’ great work in the better-known later version of The Letter.
As for Finch, while he’s certainly showy in Network, I thought William Holden was better in the film, and fellow nominees Robert De Niro and Giancarlo Giannini were better still.
