Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Gert Fröbe

I have read that Gert was a very thin man in the beginning of his career and he gained pounds along the years. Has anyone evidence of this? The earliest Gert film I have seen is
    Es geschah am hellichten Tag
(1958) and he was already fat in it.

True. In his first movies he was very thin. especially the very first one: "Berliner Ballade" with Frbe in the lead as 'Otto Normalverbraucher'. But he gained all the weight very quickly. In those days beeing fat was nothing wrong, especially after war it was a symbol for wealthyness.

without wishing to make unpleasant racial stereotypes, the average German male of the last 50 years would have had a diet rich in red meat, cheese and plenty of beer.. I LOVE german food.
