Hmm, i'm not nearly a frontrunner, but you mst be joking, i love fulci to death (har har), but, scorsese's films are extremely above argento and fulci.. even for mainstrea2000m production, his films are elite. (bringing out the dead, casino, good fellas, cape fear, gangs of new york, raging bull, taxi driver, alice doesn't live here any more) Being martin scorsese is dario argento's wet dream.

no he isnt. but i willl agree argento has class. something his counterparts failed to have in most circumstances. he was classy in the way he made soem crappy movies, and a very few good ones.

Both have their qualities , but let's not say bad comments about the music, Fulci had Fabio Frizzi on some of his movies, Argento had/has Goblin .Yes Fulci did make horrormovies, because he found out that's the best he's at, but from a point of an artist's view mind..both are genuises in my mind. Yes , Argento may be technically a bit better,to say the least, but Argento had better connections, let's not forget his father was also involved in movies. Fulci originally didn't plan on becoming a director. Both are the greatest horror directors of all time, but if I'd have to pick one of them, I'd be Fulci simply because I like his movies better then the more hitcock thrillers of Argento.
But hey, I don't have to choose so I'd rather enjoy both artist's masterpieces 😉

not that this about zombies but
most of scorsese's movie aren't about the mob. basically you only described goodfellas and casino. but i wont defend the departed either, because i didnt like it.

                        i prefer Fulci
Argento is probably the more gifted of the two, the artist or whatever
but i can't think of another director who so completley smothers you in that bleak atmosphere, the same numbing sense of dread and futility
and of course, the same pornographic fixation with violence, the willingness to soak in sensationalism
theres a bitter kick there ive never felt with Argento, or at least not to the same degree
the first time i saw one of his, i couldn't shake the feeling of something more, deeper and darker, than just the cheap exploitation film i'd just seen
the man despised humanity and that hostility bled through into almost every movie of his i can think of that i've seen so far

I prefer Fulci just for Four of the Apocalypse and Don't Torture the Duckling, I don't think Argento has made anything as good as those.

Agree and disagree on the scripts from Argento flicks.
I don't think they are bad, but some aren't as good as they could be.
But The Bird with the Crystal Plumage & Deep Red are very well written, Plumage in paticular.
I tried doing that once, making every minute count. It gave me a headache- Adrian Monk

Argento and Fulci are clearly streets ahead of all of their european counterparts, and in my opinion 99% of the American horror director fraternity, but which one rules the roost?
Your question is crippled by your premise, right out of the gate. Asking who is the best, between Argento and Fulci, is like asking who is the best between Orson Welles and Uwe Boll. Fulci is, as so many have said before, a talentless hack, ranking among the least of the "name" European fantasists (at the bottom of that barrel alongside the likes of Bruno Mattei and Umberto Lenzi). Argento can be frustratingly uneven, and even lousy, but at his best, he's a great filmmakerFulci isn't even a moderately passable one on his best day.

Only FOUR OF THE APOCALYPSE, but it turned out to be one Fulci Western more than I needed to see.
