Since bursting on the Australian movie scene with 1979s 'Mad Max', Miller has directed about a dozen films and produced slightly more, from the remaining Mad Max films, to the diverse likes of 'The Witches of Eastwick', 'Lorenzos Oil' and the 'Babe' films. Miller has no regrets about his limited choices, and asked why he makes so few films, he says its because his real passion is writing. Most of the films I come up with are original screenplays. Miller was actually ready to make the fourth Mad Max film before turning his attention to the Antarctic and 'Happy Feet'. 'Mad Max IV' was to star the original Max, Mel Gibson, and was Millers latest original screenplay. We were about three months off shooting when the Iraqi war came and the American dollar collapsed against the Australian dollar so we lost our budget. Also, we couldnt get the container ships out because of security and stuff. Max was put on hold, but Millers writing was tested differently.
    snip
After devoting the last several years to 'Happy Feet', it is not surprising that Miller will take some time off to spend with his family, recharge his batteries, before working on what he describes as a much smaller film. That will be followed by the long awaited 'Mad Max IV', but without Mel Gibson. Though I think there will be another Mad Max; the time has gone where Mel can be in it. I think the last opportunity was about four years ago and you know 5b4the characters lean and hungry. He was twenty one when he first played Mad Max and hes now in his fifties Also I think hes much more interested in whats happening behind camera than in front. It needs a lean and hungry actor and hes not into acting so much anymore and I think he just loves producing, writing and directing. But I think if fates allow there will be another Mad Max though it is certainly two films away for me, but the times gone when Mel can run around the wasteland anymore.

I'm fine with the series going beyond Mel Gibson. That incarnation of the character died with the Iraq War, and they almost did a TV series in the 90's anyway with a different lead actor. If they go with someone in their mid 20's to 30's, they can pick up exactly where Beyond Thunderdome left off and we're no worse for wear. It's a new actor or nothing, and I'm far more interested in that legendary George Miller/Brendan McCarthy tome of a screenplay than I of an actor who no longer wants the part. Oh well, too bad it sounds like we'll be waiting until 2010!

Actually, George has implied more than once that he would like to direct a trilogy of new Mad Max films, providing the fourth does well. So I guess we'd have the initial trilogy (1-3) with Mel and a second trilogy (4-6) with another actor. Fine by me. I trust George and I'm sure he can find a worthy successor.

Just heard it on the radio (Triple M) George Miller has confirmed that he is going to make Mad Max 4, albeit Mel Gibson won't be in it.

Dude he should animate it! How killer would it be to have an anime style CG Mad Max? Get the Happy Feet crew to work on it I think it would be perfect.

No, You're Wrong, and there's nothing wrong with gay, he might make more lethal weapons, and he should animate it in 2d or Cg, or make a video game to keep mel gibson in it. You're all Wrong The Croen.

Ive read a austrian newspaper article, where someone has written about Mad Max 4.
They wrote some lines about old actionstars and then they said, that Dr. George Miller would like to direct it without Mel Gibson, because Mel Gibson is to old.
Perhaps he is also a little bit to religious or to crazy
Miller said, he wants to make a fourth Mad Max. We will see, if the producers allow him to make it without Mel Gibson

Nah, it wouldn't really work because it isn't until the incident with Nightrider and then Toecutter's gang that Max becomes "mad".
We know how Max and Goose met, they work together in a small town in Australia. As for showing how Oil runs out How do you do that in a non boring way? The breakdown of society happens BECAUSE the oil runs out.

                        Yeah, anime & cg ROCKS!
Maybe Mad Max could fight it out with the bumbi bears and bob the builder,
                        that would be so cool!
Gruesome idea, how about the Mad Max .VS the happy feet penguin?

No joke, if Mad Max 4 is animated, i would literally die inside and sort of curl into a fetal position while sucking thumb and cry just 3 tears, for the number of mad max films.

My how times have changed. I feel so politically incorrect calling anime gay nowbut it isthank god we got a real Mad Max movie and not a cartoon.
