Are ya'll serious?!?! this woman can blow. How dare you insult her. Mary J Blidge inspired alot of young female celebrities today and you say some beep like that?! ya'll truly have no life and are some beep haters.

gfe-6 don't worry about it. Half of the people on this board are too young to know about the days when Mary first came out and if they did, they don't listen to or appreciate old music.
Mary CANNOT sing and has a horrible voice. It's sad that people can't tell the difference btw screaming and singing. People are just hopping on the "yeah Mary's the Queen!" bandwagon because of these stupid ass rappers who gave her the title "Queen of R&B". The ONLY reason why she recieved icon status is because she has been out for so many years. When she first came out back in 1992, people did not like her because of her voice, it was because of the beats on her songs. She does not write any of her songs and half of them were samples. Mostly all her hits back then were remakes. Her first three albums were filled with samples and remakes but hey that's what you get when you work with Puffy who is the king of sampling.

Really? I Know Mary's voice isn't convential pretty, but I like it. Because it's different. Obviously millions of people agree. I can respect people's opinion when they say why they don't like her. But, the guy who said she should've died and called her a rat. Seriously? Didn't your parents teach you anything. It's called tact people! Come on, have some class.

The reason why Mary J is a superstar is because unlike 99.9% of singers out there, she puts raw untamed emotions into her music especialy her live performance. She makes you feel every word of the song.
She also has a 4 octave vocal range (more than whitney) so I don't know how you can say she is a bad or even mediocre singer. She has one of the best vocals of all mainstream artists! She is also a great performer. -

I JUST came on IMDb to make sure I'm not crazy. She sounds sooo off pitch every time she sings, I've always wondered why she has had such a great status in R&B. I can understand if people like her songs, or the tone in which she sings them in studio recordings, but live she sounds like an amateur trying really hard with sort of a big voice. The appeal of her live performances must be her style and emotion.
I don't like her and I don't hate her, but it bothered me that she's such a crappy singer, and yet she gets praised like crazy. I sincerely think she would not pass the first round of American Idol with that voice. Her songs are catchy and lyrically deep to some, so I understand her success, but I would agree with anyone who says that she's a bad singer. Sorry. -

Well I think that Mary CAN sing and she has gotten MUCH better over the years. She does not sing out of tune in her live performances like she did earlier in her career. She has improved so much.
People who say she can't sing are pretty off imo though. She may not be Aretha, but she can definitely sing and all the emotion she puts into her songs and voice makes up for whatever she may lack technically. She's such a great performer though. Did you see her at the 2007 Grammy's when she sang "Be Without You"/"Stay With Me"? I don't know how ANYONE could say she can't sing after watching that, she blew the roof off the place and got a standing O (like she always does whenver she performs live). Mary is blessed and very talented. Love her! -

Mary's voice has improved alot over the years. I agree that she doesn't have pretty voice, but there are lots of people with beautiful singing voices that convey absolutely no emotion. Mary's voice is full of emotion and it packs a mean punch. She's extremely talented and just gets better and better.
