First of all, they were just playing a "Singing Bee" game, and JC wasn't singing the songs either.
On May 18, 2010, he released his single "Radio". I think he'll have another single released in a month and possibly an album in the fall. You can follow his twitter page now at twitter.com/realjoeyfatone for future updates.
As for his role in Nsync, he sang baritone vocals. Lance did Bass vocals, Chris had falsetto vocals, and Justin and JC were the lead tenors. I do wish that Joey had more opportunities to show his singing chops. Joey had small parts in songs such as "I Thought She Knew", "The Only Gift", "Together Again", and "On the Line" (with Lance Bass and other performers). And of course he sang "Ready to Fall" for On the Line as well.
In the first concert they did as a group in 1995, he would have solo parts such as in "We Can Work It Out", "Dreaming", "Give In To Me", and "I'll Be Back For More". He was probably allowed to sing since they probably weren't signed onto some record company.
In the NSYNC NCONCERT tour, he performed the song, "Celebration". Although it's not an Nsync song, he got to sing solo while the other 4 members were dancing in the background.
He also sang in the musical "Rent" as Mark Cohen, I enjoyed his performance of "What You Own".
I hope he'll definitely prove he has what it takes to go solo with his upcoming album! =D
