While I'm honored to be mentioned by a soapbox luminary like you, I'd like to come clean
I am born and raised in Manhattan, ny- not Kansas. For 3 years after HS I lived in Los Angeles
Other then coming to Florida to visit my grandmother and cousins, that's my connection to the south
I live in Miami simply because I took a job here many moons ago. That job is long gone but it's prohibitively expensive to move away anywhere better
Under no circumstances would I have ever intentionally put myself into the south while young

There are Jews in Louisiana, especially in New Orleans. There are like 10 temples. One of my local atheist friends married a Jew.
I also have a cousin who married a Jew, but she may have met him when she moved to San Francisco.
