Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — June Foray

    briankistler — 22 years ago(September 24, 2003 06:25 PM)

I'm really glad that June Foray is still with us after all these years. I believe that she still does take on a role from time to time. Even if she didn't though; just know that the Master female voice artist is still walking the earth, along with us, makes this world an even better place to live in.
Actually, from what I have heard and read, whether she is doing voice work or not, she is always keeping busy. And many of the things that she does, outside of voice work, are still connected to the entertainment industry. I agree with Michelle Klein Haas, who published an article on her in 1994 (in the Animato journal); June is the finest living voice artist PERIOD; both male or female.
Paul Frees, a fellow voice artist, once said of June: "When you have a talent like June Foray, there is no age..SHE IS AGELESS."

      I just watched
      The Phantom Tollbooth
(about twenty years after first seeing it on TV), and I knew that voice right away! I figured I would start a thread if there wasn't one already, but you beat me by six months!
C'mon, where's everyone else! Get away from that J-Lo board and post something here!

June Foray is not the female Mel Blanc. Mel Blanc was the male June Foray.
            Chuck Jones got it right.
Has anyone here got the Smurfs on DVD? If you do, then you may have noticed that none of the actors are credited on the box. I think that not mentioning them is extremely disrespectful. The Smurfs had some great voice talent including June Foray who gave voice to my favourite Smurf, Jokey.
Everyone talks about the speed of light, I want to know about the speed of dark

I very much agree with that which has been previously posted. When I decided to look a5b4t the IMDB entry on this legend, I had planned to start a thread for Ms. Foray if one did not already exist. I'm glad to see that some people have taken the time to remember someone truly noteworthy, instead of mindlessly chattering about current trifles. Although I am not very old (born late 80s), I grew up loving shows such as "Tiny Toons Adventures," "The Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries," "The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle," and a host of Bugs Bunny centered shows, featuring Ms. Foray as a variety of characters. Of all of the old WB cartoon characters (Bugs, Daffy, Tweety, etc.), Granny has always been among my favorite; I found her kindhearted obliviousness to the actions surrounding her amusing and endearing, and when she became a principal character on her own show (Sylv & Tweety Myst) as a detective, I was blissfully happy. I knew that the name "June Foray" had been around for a very long time and been many places, but I had not realized that she had done so much. This may sound a tad vain, but when I came to her entry, I was not expecting to find this number of other appreciative fans, instead I imagined that I would be the only appreciative person to want to post something about Ms. Foray. Again, I'm so glad that I was wrong. Voice actors have long been overlooked, especially the ones of my parents' generation, who did the voices for the American cartoons when the number of voice 5b4actors was very limited and there was not much importing of foreign cartoons like anime. My parents (and I'm sure others of their generation and even my own) have foolishly taken for granted the voice actors in the cartoons they watched in their youth, discarding the memory of those who brightened their young lives with a habit that they believe is "childish." I hope that I never forget amazing people like June Foray as I age. I don't know if Ms. Foray will ever view these posts honoring her; I hope that she does not think that she has been forgotten and unappreciated (or appreciated by an elite few). Hopefully, somehow she will sense how much she has affected my life, the lives of the other posters, and the lives of those who have not even thought to look at her IMDB entry but still love, cherish, and respect her.
"I will calll it solitude when all my songs fade in vain,
Fly my voice far away to eternity"

I can't even begin to fathom the life this woman has experienced. It is beautiful thing to have such a positive impact on a generation of people. She, however, has had the great blessing to be able to affect MANY past generations as well as forever shaping our culture. She has worked with and shaped so many talented people through her life and that right there is pretty rewarding. I'm pretty sure she has some idea of the magnitude of her contributions to mankind. Thank you and God bless you June Foray!
