Why does everyone keep saying that she looks old?

You specifically chose photos where photographers try to take the best, full frontal shots they can to make the celebs look good. And she's wearing makeup and has her hair done.

I'm watching her in an episode of Ray Donovan right now and I'm shocked how old she is looking in this episode. I specifically came here to see maybe it was just me but NOPE!
No illwill but yes she is aging a bit badly for someone only in their 30s.

Touche I am over here for the same reason. For the first 2 episodes I did not even know who she was. She seems real skinny and her face seems longer. Maybe because they want her to look too serious and the make up people have her look that way. I can only hope so. Because she always had a very pretty face. -

Saw her on Fallon and a bit of Ray Donovan, she is looking older which contrasts sharply with her years and years of her youthful, cherub looks, but she still looks pretty and young. Not quite as ageless as Rachel McAdams (also on Fallon), but hey, don't think McAdams has any kids yet or a divorce heh.

Walk down a busy street and most, if not all, women you pass in their mid 30's will look older than Katie or at best the look the same age.
Celebrities get held up to almost impossible standards sometimes. Because a handful of other actresses who lucked out with great genes and stay youthful looking longer than almost everyone else people like Katie get described as looking old, when she really only looks her age. -

Amen! I'd add that people tend to either project their own personal biases or insecurities when judging famous people, especially if they are around the same age. For instance, I am the same age as Margot Robbie and while I do recognize that she has striking, mature features, she doesn't look that much older than her actual age; however, there seems to be this hyperbolic reaction to her, especially with people around her age (mid-twenties). I guess with people living healthier, longer lives in modern times, there is this obsession with looking younger for longer as well. I have noticed certain people are obsessed with it and put their livelihood into looking youthful; anyone who deviates from their narrow scope gets labeled as looking "so old" or "OMG, she looks 15 years olderthan her actual age!"

Agreed; I was shocked and didn't even recognize her at first I just kept thinking she looked so familiar, but I couldn't place her. She definitely looks more like she's in her 50's than 37 in Ray Donovan. Like others, I also came over here to see if others noticed and agreed; that is, after I checked the credits to make sure it was even her. That said, I'm 47 and still find her attractive.

While Katie Holmes is beautiful, always has been, I still must agree with others here.
She looks older than her age. I can almost guarantee a LOT of it has to do with her suntanning.
Nothing ages you more than the sun, and she always had a deep smooth tan.
It looks terrific while you have it, butb68 it ages you BIG TIME!
I Googled 'Katie Holmes Ray Donovan character' to see what you guys mean, and wow she looked bad!!
A lot of it is her hairstyle, what is that supposed to be: Bed-head?
Long story short, she looks older than she is.
I agree she needs a few pounds.
She also looks vacant, I agree with that too. She has looked that way for a long time now, perhaps its depression!

I'm sorry but with all due respect she doesn't look older, she looks her age, which is 37. People, for some bizarre reaso16d0n, expect her to look the way she did back in the days of
Dawson's Creek
. A 37 year old will not look like a 20 year old,(which is the age she was when she did that show) nor should they have to. I agree she didn't look her best while she was married to Tom Cruise but she looks fine now that she left him and I don't get why there is so much negativity. I'm not even a huge fan of hers but there is so much hate on this board, it's ridiculous.
Don't let anyone ever make you feel like you don't deserve what you want. -

I think it's much the same thing. She's much too thin and too tanned. When you're 20, being thin = slender. But as you age, it makes you look frail and gaunt. When you're 20, being tan can be pretty. But as you age, it makes you look older, and not just because of the sun damage. Older skin is naturally thinner and crepey, and that's normal. When it's tanned it looks like leather.
Perhaps it's stress, not eating enough calories or nutrients, and not exercising properly? Not sure, but she just looks so thin, too thin, and among other things, she does not look healthy. Someone can be slender and still look healthy, but she does not.
I don't follow her, and frankly am only aware of her because she married Tom Cruise.

Katie has always looked older than she is. She just has an older looking face. At some point, it'll probably start even out, so she'll end up looking younger whens she's old.
