During Dawson Creek I would definitely say that Michelle Williams was the better actor on that show with a successful career to back it up. I always found Holmes acting to be lacking, but it seems though being with Tom Cruise destroyed whatever sparked or acting ability she had left. She took so long to go back into acting that she needs to go back to acting school to brush up on her skills because it would be sad if she never came out from under Tom Cruise's shadow. There is no doubt in my mind that Holmes saw her marriage to Tom as an opportunity to propel herself to A list status, but it came at a price. I'm seen the same thing with Blake Lively who have been trying to hook up with top Hollywood stars until Leo broke up with her, and she ended up with marrying the second best. I hope the best for Katie and that she can prove through her acting instead of marriage that she deserves to be an A Lister.

I agree, she seemed to think that marriage to Tom would raise her Hollywood status quo.
Not only that, but I cringed when I read about how Katie grew up with a crush on Tom and literally saying "I'm going to marry Tom Cruise."
And Tom was dancing around on TV when Katie said yes to his proposal.
So it sounds like this marriage was.literallya fairy tale from the beginning. The problem is life is NOT a fairy tale.

I agree. Post-separation, her own lawyer said that she was disappointed that her marriage to Tom hadn't paid off for her career. She got generally mediocre to poor reviews for every movie that she was in during the marriage and was frequently identified as the weakest link. Tom can be held responsible for a lot of things, but not bad acting on her part. I think she could still have a reasonable career if she went back to TV, but it wouldn't surprise me if she thinks she's above it. She wants to be a movie star but will never be an A-lister on her own.
If you want an example of where her career is at, see this very IMDB page. She has one project in post-production, one in pre-production (that was supposed to have started principal photography over a year ago) and one 'in development'. Development projects frequently never make it to the screen.
This is not a 'thriving' career and is unlikely to become so. There is no sign that producers and directors are going anywhere near her door, let alone beating it down. The world has moved past her, but I don't believe her marriage can be blamed for that. It's not like she did no acting and disappeared during it. She was performing, but hardly setting the screen on fire. -

And at this point we have no indications that this career will thrive.
She gets no jobs and I believe there are several reasons for it: In case she goes to auditions, I cannot imagine that she delivers such a blow away reading that directors decide to cast her.
Even if she would or could I believe they would still reconsider if they want to get into trouble with Tom Crui$emeister, the Queen of Clams (i.e. $cientologists). I could imagine that he would go through some trouble when it comes to beating KH'S career down. He has enough reasons to do so:- There is Suri, who was to become a $cientologist. He would want to win her back.
- Another reason is that KH divorced Tommy Gurl and he looked like a complete a$$. Occasionally KH gave the impression that her intention was not only divorce, but to make Tommy Gurl look s5b4tupid. There are reports that sound exactly like that. And the Mighty Midget is not one to forgive. I could imagine that he blames her for his career melt-down, just as Katie Ho blames him.
- Whatever his shortcomings - and he has plenty - TC made big bucks for the business, and there is a reason why he became who is or was. There might be plenty of hate and grudge against him in the industry yet he was one big money machine. And if somebody tries to spoil or break a profit maker he might have the industry against him.
Disapproving of him and his views is one thing, but leaving him untouched for the sake of business and profit is another. And when it comes to business, Tommy Gurl is clearly the winner. Remember, neither Nicole Kidman nor Penelope Cruz went out their way and made Tommy Gurl look like the jacka$$ that he is and has become in the public eye.
Finally all of this, both her marriage and her divorce indicate that she is not reliable. When she married Tommy Gurl she didn't find it necessary to promote the Batman movie because she was too busy being the New Mrs.Crui$e. This got her fired from the Batman franchise. Which is not a good thing to have on your CV. And now she leaves TC and is indiscreet? This woman is not reliable, her conduct is unprofessional.
Altogether she is too much trouble to hire.
As can be seen on this message boards, KH has no fan base who could and would gu2000arantee a profit.
So, why should anybody hire KH?

I completely agree. I don't understand some of the comments i've read in this thread blaming her marriage to Tom or that she became a mother. Lots of actresses get married and have kids and still put out movies. Literally all i know Katie for is her constant appearance in the tabloids with Suri. Before she dated Tom, i had no idea who she was. She was no a tabloid sensation and i guess her only fans were from "Dawson's Creek", which had already ended before Tom. Yes, she had a long running tv show, but her acting never received praise and she was never nominated for awards. After a while, stars of 'popcorn' tv series and movies fizzle out for many reasons. The viewers grow up and stop watching and move on to a mature viewing, the stars get older and lose the sex appeal, a new generation starts and captures the audience, etc leaving the once huge stars to become has-beens almost instantly.
A lot of people compare Katie Holmes to Jennifer Garner. Both became stars on hit tv series, both married huge stars and become tabloid sensations over night. Except the difference between Katie and Jennifer is that before Jennifer married Ben, she was praised as an actress on her tv series, "Alias" while Katie was never praised for her role on "Dawson's Creek". Jennifer had a Golden Globe and SAG as well as 3 other Golden Globe nominations, 1 other SAG nomination and 4 Emmy nominations. Katie was just the star of a hit teen show how never was praised as an actress so she had more trouble getting big screen roles. Jennifer has 3 kids and has still managed to score roles in big filmsKatie is a completely different story. If Katie had talent, she could be both a mother and tabloid sensation by association, but she is just a tabloid sensation because she has no talent. If it were't for Tom, Katie would be long gone from Hollywood. Jennifer has always said that she put her career on hold to be a present mother and to allow Ben to direct, but at least she still has a career-unlike Katie. (Also wanna add that Jennifer Garner was one of the one's Tom tried courting to be his next wife. He tried getting her to audition and would send her flowers and other things almost daily even when she made it clear that she was not interested and was dating Ben Affleck. Best decision she ever made was not getting involved with that creep). -

I think she has gravitated to more family-oriented romantic comedies, which are fun, light movies that can make money. But to get the Oscar, she needs to take more darker and emotional roles that might not make a lot of money, but get her some acting cred. At least in her personal life, she comes across as the naive virginal girl next door. She needs to get loose and take some wilder roles.

Katie is a very underestimated actress, shes done good work, and she will once again get roles that suit her.
Anything a little com5b4plicated suits her very much, this sounds better than Responsible Adults, shes not a comedic actress.
She got the breakout award for Disturbing Behaviourshe played a bit of a bad girl who came good.
Played well in Ice Storm compicated again .
Abandon , where she killed a few people, was written especially for her. Katie was fantastic in the scene where she goes for a job interview, and the close up was gorgeous.
.so was the teen movie Teaching Mrs Tingle. Kevin Williamson creator of DC wrote it especially for her.
Regardles of the fact that hes gay, there are some lovely pics of them together, and you can see they cared for each other, glad hes back in her life.
Pieces of April is a little gem of a movie, DC only gave her 10 days off(she was in every scene for nearly 6 yrs), and only had a budget of$300,000.
Even tho she was only in Wonder Boys for 10 mins she got a good write up as the obsessed student to Micheal Douglasshe had the hots for him in the movie.
Nobody ever said anything bad about her, never wrote anything bad about her, she only used to get compliments, and was liked by everyone.
Shell get back on track again, and I think people still believe in her, more offers will come her way again.
Now that Suri is in school , you can see shes trying to keep it all New York. Might be a bit hard for her in that respect.
I have a lot of time for Katie, shes made some unwise de2000cisions, but I honestly believe shell come good !
She is filming Mania days.
You people contradict yourselves so badly, Spike Lee must have thought shes ok to put her in his movie, to begin with. Wishing the best for you Kate. -

I am sorry, but by the end of Dawson's creek they were avg 4 million viewers. That's peanuts. At the height of their show it was 6 million viewers. In contrast friends had an average of 14 to 24 millions viewers ( this info is taken from Wiki) This is why Rachel ( JA) could make the transition and KM could not. 4 million viewers is not a lot of viewers. The soaps average 3 million. She was a small time TV star. For people who watched Dawson's Creek she was a mega star, but the average person she was a nobody until she got with TC. If anything that raised her star. People would want to see a movie with her in it just because she was TC wife. TC has a wildly successful acting career so I doubt people were turned off by the Scientology. I also doubt TC really controlled what she did that much. From 2003 - 2006 (when she married TC and DC ended) She did 6 movies or TV shows. So about 2 a year. Nothing besides Batman Returns was a mega success. Thank you for Smoking did ok ( had a 10 million budget and made 40 million) So obviously, she wasn't riding the success of Dawson's Creek into big time Hollywood. She was in 6 roles from 06- 11. But you also have to factor in she had a kid. None of those movies were the best. I think Jack and Jill did ok at the box office.
She is nothing more than TC ex wife. I like others would suggest she move back into TV because over the last 10 years the big screen hasn't liked her. She's been in 12 TV/movie roles in the last 10 years and still hasn't "made it". She is a TV star and will never be a movie star. -
