I am not even a Felicity fan, but I am an actress and in my opinion I thought that Felicity had the best performance of all of the actresses nominated. My second choice would've been Judi Dench, but no offense to the other actresses, but their performances were mediocre. Reese was okay, but not great. I found her to be unconvincing as June Carter, but she won because she is friends with most of the academy members. Oh well, the Oscars don't really mean much anyways lol.

Just curious
And do you really think the Academy is screwing around by giving the Oscar to the person they're friends with? Sorry, but would you please get some right information first before you make remarks that make no sense? -

At least I found one thing I have in common with you, I'm not a Felicity fan either.
Reese learned how to sing [very well by the way], play the autoharp, and she had an amazing screen chemistry with Joaquin Phoenix who was equally as talented portraying Johnny Cash. I found her portrayal of June Carter Cash as the best performance ever coming from her. She really has evolved as an actress through her career.
As an "actress" you should look beyond what you think is "popular" in the Biz. Geez, Hollywood in and of itself is a "popularity contest". You should know that. Reese winning "because she is friends with most of the Academy members", is ridiculous. Do you have any idea how many members there are? I can respect your opinions and all, but you're fishing in an empty lake without any bait. -

What has all this got to do with her performance. What methods an actor employs off screen in order to get in touch with his character does not make him a great actor. Finally it is how convincing he/she was on-screen.
I am not saying Reese's performance was bad, it was great, and I am happy she won, but ur comments make no sense.
I am not a Reese or Felicity fan by the way though I do feel that Felicity should have won. -

All awards are subjective judgement calls that cause debate on who was the better "anything". What Reese did off screen before filming and then applying what she learned to enhance her performance onscreen, in addition to the onscreen chemistry between her and Joaquin is a valid point. If neither of them learned their respective musical parts then the movie wouldn't have been as successful or believable as it is. Their on screen chemistry was an added bonus that helped both actors pull off thier portayal of the characters. Not all movies or actors can pull that off. It's either hit or miss. In this case, IMO, it was a hit and that's what helped Reese win her Oscar in the Academy's eyes as well as Joaquin winning his Golden Globe in the eyes of the foreign film people, again IMO. No one said she won because she sang, what we're saying is that she took her role seriously and studied it and learned things that helped ENHANCE her performance. If she was lip syncing and someone else playing the instrument for her, it wouldn't have been a big stretch for her.
And no, you don't have to study at an acting school to learn how to train. They have coaches that are professionals that they can work with if they so choose. -

Okay. I cannot ignore this.
Felicity convincingly played a man becoming a woman. She read every article she could find about it, as well as every biography and autobiography, and she watched documentaries, to really understand the internal journey. She also went to transgender conventions because, as she said herself:
"as with any segment of society, theres a wide spectrum and Bree was in a particular place so I wanted to see a lot of different transgender women."
And she also worked with transgender women, to get to know their stories and figure out how to take on the role of Bree. In addition to this she found herself a coach. And she did voice work as well, to find the right voice, which took a lot of time.
To Felicity, it was really important to truly understand what these people are going through. She wanted the performance to be as believable as it could possibly be. And it really was an incredible performance, and the Oscar should have been hers. Her talent is just beyond amazing, I don't think I can put into words just how much I adore this woman.

I totally agree.
I respect the Academy.
But Felicity should have won. She went through a transformation that actually worked. I could feel the character Bree. Felicity was marvelous and should have won the OSCAR.
Reese was good but singing does not an actor Oscar maketh. I am sick of these supposed actors winning an OSCAR for singing. God why don't they win a Grammy instead??? Reese was good, but I found her performance to be very pedestrian, very ordinary, and not using much of her "transformation" for a more great emotional effect. Meanwhile, Felicity had me hooked. I am a fan of hers now.

U can't possibly say that Charlize Theron's performance was medicore, it was a very powerful performance but it wasn't her year,it was very clear that it was or Resse's or Felicity's , and I think that Felicity did an incredibleeeee performance,she should have won definitely.
And if it was fair the competion should have been between Charlize and Felicity becasue I think that Reese was only supporting in that movie.

I'am soory but you're all wrong,neither Reese nor Fecilty should have won-neither were that great.

Oscars are clearly an objective judgement based on artistic merit, not a popularity contest. This explains why they have given the oscar to such undisputed acting masters as Roberto Begnini, John Wayne, Charlton Heston, Halle Berry, Cher, Liza Minelli, Grace Kelly, Cuba Gooding Jr., Renee Zellweger, Kim Basinger, Mira Sorvino, and, of course, Marisa Tomei all actors and actresses who - through their range and versitality as actors, have changed their profession, or raised it to a new level. Yes, truly these actors deserve to be remembered fifty years from now for their "best of the year" perfor2000mances.
My personal favourite, by the way, was when the academy proved to the world that Julia Roberts had turned in a better performance than Ellen Burstyn (Requiem for a Dream), Joan Allen (the Contender), Laura Linney (You Can Count On Me), and Juliette Binoche (well, okay, Chocolat was way overrated, but that doesn't discount the other three).
