I wouldn't agree that January is THE best actress on the show, but I agree that Betty is one of the most believable characters. Insecure, subdued and on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Betty, in a way, is a 'poor actress', she's adamant to keep up appearances but people sense that something is off. Anyone who's ever met such a person in real life gets it immediately. I think it's that authenticity that's perceived as 'poor acting' by people who have a very narrow view, they somehow perceive Betty's 'stiffness' as January's. Funny that; She was hired by seriously picky people with insane attention to detail, she was nominated for an Emmy and a Golden Globe (twice) but none of those people know anything because Joe Blow in his mom's basement has used his awesome power of acting ability evaluation to determine that she can't act worth a damn.
Jessica Par gets the same treatment over on her board not merely for her supposed lack of talent and acting chops but also her teeth.

Well, a heads up. Joe Blow here decided that watching more than just Mad MenWhy don't you tell us how wonderful she is in Unknown and X-Men: First Class?
And by the way, my "awesome power of acting ability evalution" is the same as yours

I'd have to agree, while I wouldn't say her acting ever stood out as great it never stood out as bad either. I don't understand why so many posts are chastising her like this Did she burn down an orphanage or something else I don't know about?

As long as the role is limited and calls for a wooden performance with zero range or emotion than JJ is serviceable. She fit in well on Mad Men because her character was supposed to be repressed and subdued. But her movie roles have gone from mediocre to abysmal. Maybe being associated with Ashton Kutcher has enabled his "acting" DNA to rub off on her.

Amazing actress? Your standards for actresses are very low.

JJ is rather one-note but that's fine. Many actors are. The last 20 or so times I saw Christopher Walken in a role, he played well, Christopher Walken. Most actors aren't transformation freaks like Meryl Streep and Daniel Day Lewis.
Some people seem to rate performances by degree of transformation (zomg he plays a retard he must be the greatest actor evvar), which is an amateurish POV like n00bs who think that guitar skills are rated by how fast you can play, therefore Yngwie must be better than Jimi Hendrix.
There are so many other parameters to consider in acting, but the most important one is of course to embody a role and make the character believable. And for the role of Betty, JJ is a perfect fit. She's not versatile, she's more corkscrew than Swiss army knife, but if all you need is to open a bottle then a corkscrew will do the job wonderfully. You think she's wooden? Well good, because Betty is pretty much made of wood. 10/10 for the casting.
I think some of the hate may stem from her underwhelming performance as host on SNL. It was pretty bad. But the girl is pathologically shy and got into acting almost as therapy to overcome her shyness, and getting up in front of an audience and millions of viewers to do comedy for an hour and a half is hell for someone like that. She was probably on the verge of crapping her pants the whole show. Actually one of the sketches was just a non stop farting extravaganza so maybe she took the opportunity

That will go down in history as one of the worst hosting gigs in the history of the show.

she's not a fraction as horrible as haters exaggerate7ec. and why do they only pick on her? why not pick on ACTUALLY wooden, emotionless actors like Natalie Portman (at least she was better as a kid), Zooey Deschanel, Jennifer Lawrence, or hey, Christina Hendricks' overrated acting that people only pretend is so good because they appreciate how slutty Joan is?

She's just bland. Sometimes bland actors get ahead. Look at Channing Tatum and Sam Worthington. Mannequins.

It's not hate. I've never seen her in Mad Men, only X-men, and she was so bland and emotionless she took me out of every scene she was in. And I have absolutely no animosity towards her at all, I didn't even know who she was. Only that she was very bland. That's my call and I am not a "hater" because I disagree with you.
