He is one of many of us guys who lose their hair. I am surprise because he is only 30. He, being a celebrity probably had a few options. Transplant(risky), Hair system ala Bert Reynolds or William Shatner. Go Natural ala Ron Howard or Jason Alexander.

Well, that's just plain pitiful. It'll take alot of getting used to. He had such pretty hair, and he's four years younger than I am!

Actually, I read in an interview that he'd just shaved it for a role he was doing when he got the call for "Dancing." The producers, for whatever reason, asked him to heep shaving it through the run of the show.

I also heard on The View that Rosie had met his dad a long time ago (she did a guest spot on a show he was on back when he was a kid the one with Nell Carter) and his father was prematurely balding as well
So maybe he just jumped the gun a bit because of the role and decided to keep it.

I always heard that whether or not a man goes bald is from his mother's side. Don't know if that's true or not.

No it doesnt skip a generation, and it is inherited from the mother's side.

I'm an employee for "Hair Club for Men" and as a hair loss expert, I can tell you that hair loss can be caused by a number of factors. Diet, age, medication, stress and genetics can all cause hair loss in men and women. Genetic hair loss can come from either side of the family not just one or the other. You dad and mom and grandparents from both sides of the family can have a full head of hair for example, but you might have a bald uncle that passes the gene on to you and BAM238, your bald. There are three proven solutions for hair loss. A hairloss treatment such as propecia (men only) and minoxidil. A bio-matrix which is the best looking hair system or hair piece money can buy and finally, Follicular hair transplants. These transplants are the gold standard of transplants. No scarring around the implanted area and little recovery time. You can usually go back to work in just a day or two and swelling should be completely gone in 3-4 days.
Hair treatments only slow down hair loss bringing it to a hault. There is a small5b4 percentage that hair which actually grow back and if it does its fine and thin and falls out if you stop the treatment. This is the best option for people just starting to notice moderate hair loss. If your beyond that, this option isn't for you. Follicular transplants are the best in the business but you will rarely get the density or thickness you seek. Up to about 2600 grafts can be done in one surgery and sometime you need to go back about a year later to get a thicker look. This option is expensive but its the only permanent way to get what you want. Depending on how many grafts you need and promotions HairClub is offering at the moment, you can get these grafts anywhere between $4.00-6.50 per graft.
Finally, the bio-matrix looks super real in some guys and super fake in others. It all depends on which kind you buy and if you can learn all the tricks when styling your hair so that it looks natural. This can cost you anywhere between $1600-2600 per system plus you would want to go a program to get the most for your money when it comes to periodic maintenance. Not everyone looks good in these but the guys that do look fantastic. Younger guys like Joey with the type of hairstyle he had would look completely natural but it gets old after a couple of years.

do you know what a recessive allele is?
Cause it would answer the proposed situation you just created on how if your blood-uncle is bald for example, you still might go bald.

                                      There
                                      is
one type of baldness inherited from the mother's X-chromosome.
One other notion occurs to me: That great mane of hair is so closely associated with the "Joey" character he played on
                                      Blossom
that he's conciously trying to distance himself from that character in order to get offers to play other roles.
Reason: TV casting directors are so VERY timid about casting a performer as different
                                      types
of roles that actors like Mr Lawrence, who are capable of more than one character, have to get from one successful show to another by way of films requiring a drastic change of appearance. (Film casting not being
                                      quite
                                      so married to the notion
"he played this type so that's all we're going cast him as."
                                      )

Not in my family, all the men on my Mother's side have a great head of hair in their 60's and 70's, my father started losing his hair in his early 20's as has my brother.
I am a four eyed evil genius.
