Excellent point-I looked up the original article and NASA follow up.It's a standard RW practice to take something someone said and make it sound as if they are saying something els5b4e.Happens all the time with regards to anything they are opposed to.It's SOP with them and easily debunked if you do the research. It's just misleading propaganda.

I don't know what the hell is going on with the polar bears. I do know that this area harbors significant oil resources. Tapping into them would help kill dependence on Mideastern oil. Even so, there are arguments for and against this, which I respect.
Regarding Ms. Lawrence, I DON'T GIVE A RAT'S REAR END ABOUT HER THOUGHTS RE. FOREIGN POLICY OR ANYTHING ELSE.
She's an ACTRESS, not a politician, much less an intellectual. Let's see, who was the last intellectual who acted as a regular on a TV series? Actors should ACT. If they want to expound about issues, that's their right. But it is also our right to ignore such expounding to concentrate on their acting, good or bad.
Lawrence is a good actress and (need I add) a sexy woman. I watch her to enjoy those qualities. But I wouldn't think of consulting her about global-international issues, for Pete's sake.

Geez, I wish someone had told that to Ronald Reagan.

            seen
            Reagan's acting?

Okay, let me try to splain this to you Lucy. The poster who's posting was deleted had said " Actors should ACT ". You saw my reply to him/her. The reason I said that was that I wish that Reagan had stuck to acting and stayed out of politics. I've seen him act many times and he wasn't bad at all. He was an even better actor when he got into politics, considering how far his acting got him.

And I agree for the most part about political Regan, it was just meant a little joke, not a big deal.

Actually, his first wife, Jane Wyman, was a terrific actress. If you ever get the chance to see ' Johnny Belinda ', don't miss it.

I've seen hundreds of old movies, but I'm not sure I've seen that one. But I'll keep an eye out for it, thanks.

' Netflix ' probably has it. Possibly, even your local library, 2000since it was nominated for a dozen Oscars, although Wyman's was the only nomination that won.

Jane Wyman also is terrific in "The Lost Weekend" and "All That Heaven Allows". She's also pretty awesome (not joking) on "Falcon Crest".

Wow, you have all the RNC talking points memorized, dontchya, Dittohead. Let's see, you called one a homosexual and accused another of being a mindless sheep. So, how far is your head shoved inthe sand. Is this where you draw your weapon and exclaim allahu akbarI mean god bless america and threaten us? Or tell us we're treasonous? Aren't patriotic? Tell us, oh independent thinker, tell us, how many times did you vote for the Shrub? And McCain, and Dole. And probably already are planning on voting for the MILF.
This will be the high point of my day; it's all downhill from here.

My dad was yelling at the screen after that commercial aired, and because I love her, I was a little skeptical, and so I went online, and found that yes, the polar bear population is increasing!
I tend to be very skeptical about global warming anyways- there's undoubtedly a LOT happening to our environment, none of it very good, but there are so many good, reputable scientists objecting to the theory (and not getting any media attention), that I see it merely as a theory . . . not fact.
I haven't lost all respect for her, because the sad truth is that celebrities are treated as experts on all matters simply because they're in the limelight. In truth, I'm sure somebody told her polar bears were dying out, she felt concerned, and did the commercial. I very much doubt that it's her personal stance. I feel, like with most people, she is simply going with the flow. You can't really fault her for that.

I don't know about where you live, but where I live we are on what is called glacial till.
From Wikipedia: Glacial till is that part of glacial drift which was deposited directly by the glacier. It may vary from clays to mixtures of clay, sand, gravel and boulders.
That describes very well the kind of earth materials we have here (75 miles north of NYC).
That means, unless decades worth of geologists are wrong, there used to be glaciers here.
I have heard no residents here complain about the fact that at sometime in the past, the weather changed and the glaciers retreated. But, to listen to the media and other non-thinkers of the knee-jerk variety, the weather cannot change outside of the recent past average conditions, or some evil human forces are at work and must be accused or ridiculed to death in order to stop or reverse the nefarious climate change. And, they have to have the rate of change be of a certain (very low) magnitude also, or they get upset.
Come on, people get your emotions under control and start thinking for a change.

                                          http://www.polarbearsinternational.org/ask-the-experts/population/
"in the 1960s, polar bear populations dropped precipitously due to over-hunting. When restrictions on polar bear harvests were put in place in the early 1970s, populations rebounded. That situation was a conservation success story but the current threat to polar bears is entirely different, and more dire.
Today's polar bears are facing the rapid loss of the sea-ice habitat that they rely on to hunt, breed, and, in some cases, to den. Last summer alone, the melt-off in the Arctic was equal to the size of Alaska, Texas, and the state of Washington combineda shrinkage that was not predicted to happen until 2040. The loss of Arctic sea ice has resulted in a shorter hunting season for the bears, which has led to a scientifically documented decline in the best-studied population, Western Hudson Bay, and predictions of decline in the second best-studied population, the Southern Beaufort Sea."
