The original 1971 film is excellent. I just said not too long ago that I only like Dustin Hoffman in "Tootsie", but I forgot about this movie. It is fascinating and he was perfectly cast. Also, Susan George was superb and the film was distressingly erotic. The score is great. Super intense film from my favorite year for movies.

It's so satisfying to see David turn the tables. I felt Amy's fear very strongly. When she blasts the guy at the end, I felt for her. David was not super likable, but he did what he had to do.
Edit. I saw the remake. To me it is as generic as any of the other millennial remakes and I could hardly distinguish it from the remake of "Prom Night" or "Last House on the Left", in that all these remakes are just an excuse to employ over the top violence. The violence in the original seemed plausible and added to the tension. The violence in the remake was for me stupid.
