    Beaches, Frankie & Johnny.
Although you have inadvertantly walked on to a Monthy Python sketch from The Life of Brian.

Okay, if you can refrain from mentioning the Roberts-Gere one, what to you are his "standout films" that show he's not an utter, thorough hack?
How can you judge someone as a hack if we can't include all his films? Do you work at Fox News?
Really? Well, then why did I do it? Huh? 'Cause I did it! Riddle me that!

No, Joel Schumacher is the biggest Hack of all time.
I think Gerry Marshall films are at least half way entertaining and non pretensious.

Schumacher made Tigerland and the not too bad Phantom of the Opera.

Garry is a genius and has made his mark as a writer, director, and a producer of some of the best shows on TV..you just weren't around. He is well known and well respected and even at his advanced age is directing a big ensemble cast in cluding De Niro, Michelle Pfieffer, Kathryn Heigl, and a ton more in a new movie coming out in Dec 2011he is not as well known for movies as he is for TV. Back in the day when tv had great shows and not reality garbage. He is a wonderful actor as well.

You seem to miss the point. Joe Namath was great once too. But you wouldn't put him in a game today.
                  It's been 20 years since Marshall's directed a well-reviewed film.
I'm thinking he must have a lot of dirt on people, and that's why he keeps getting work.

Of course as an athlete's body loses some of it's muscle, etc with aging, they are no longer fit to play. But, a producer and director use their minds which may not deteriorate for many people. Clint Eastwood is making movies still in his 80's as is Robert Redford and many more.
Apples and oranges, my friendbad arguement.

She has to be one of the worst actresses to ever become famous in Hollywood and that film sucked and bombed at the box office. It was a failure at every level.

I meant Heigl and her having the worst performance in the trash film "New Year's Eve," the "Cardinal's Mistress" of Hollywood.

Garry Marshall was around making movies etc way before the 80's and he was well loved, just see the awards he won.
His real talent lie in writing going as far back as I Love Lucy and the Dick Van Dyke show in the 60's. He was a man for all seasons. His shows were big hits over and over again. Do not just look at the producer credits, look at his whole career of producing, directing, writing and acting. Not many before or since can do all that. I don't think you are looking at the big picture at all.
I don't know what gave you the idea he started in the 80's. Everyone knew his name and wanted to work with him.

Wow, the guy that did pretty woman is responsible for all this crap? I guess I'm not surprised. It's funny how "women's" films are always made by old white dudes. How about let some female directors make some "chick flicks" instead of old dudes who constantly write stereotypical gender roles.

But not this time, thank God. 🙂
To which film are you referring? Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve both made their money back plus a nice over. Or are you judging success by whether or not you like the film, rather than whether it made money at the box office and helped further the careers of the people involved?

I would have to disagree with you there. Even if he never produced anything after Happy Days, he still would have been worth a star on the Hollywood Walk of fame.
