Still baffled that he's gone…

I don't know about any of you, but this man's death has been the true shocker of the year for me so far. So unexpected, so random And I know that that's life, but it just seems so unfair to me to see a man like Minghella go. He was such a talented person and I am a big fan of his movies. It's interesting that I had just revisited The English Patient days before his death. The timing was perfect, but his death seems catastrophic to me. A man like Minghella, who was so active and worked on so many fields, as a writer, director, producer, etc., must have had so much more to give. It's sad to see the great ones go. Altman left us recently but in many ways his death was expected, as un-PC as that may sound. Anthony, though, he left us way too early. He will be missed.

So many people in the arts have died prematurely this year - Heath Ledger, Brad Renfro, Bernie Mac, Anthony Minghella . . .
What happened to him? How did he get cancer of the tonsils? Was he a smoker? I'm surprised to see him go so quickly.
