Both of their immune systems were compromised due to recreational use of prescription drugs. Anemia was caused from a poor diet.
When they acquired an pneumonia, their immune systems were not strong enough to fight it. I think she had 14 different drugs in her system. That's a lot for any p5b4erson and she was petite.

It's clear both Brittany and her husband were self medicating, but how do you know the prescription drug use was recreational rather than feeding a dependency initiated by prescription?

Their deaths seem like they were planned to be murdered but we'll never know for sure.
