It is the funniest show ever made and I love Caroll O'Connor.

You have a great deal of company. He is remarkable in his role as Archie. I never tire of his performances, no matter how many viewings. His portrayal of Archie is as fresh on my hundredth viewing as upon my first. He is the greatest!
How many actors can that be said about. Not very many! And, he was a wonderful human being personally and professionally, to boot.
It is, but a short step, from the sublime to the ridiculous! -

I wish seasons 7-9 were on DVD. Only up to season 6. I was lucky to catch some of the last episodes from season 9 on TV (where Danielle Brisbois joined the cast). Definitely taped those. They are rare episodes. Not as edgy or as topical as the episodes from seasons 1 - 3 but still entertaining. I would also really like seasons 2 - 4 of "Archie Bunker's Place" to come out. Not as good as "All In The Family" but they are curios. I saw the first season recently on DVD and it was okay. I wish Jean Stapleton would have stayed on as Edith but she wanted to leave. She and Archie work so well together.

To me, All in the Family was the most brilliant and funniest show ever put on television. The writing was nothing short of outstanding and the subject matter controversial yet still very relevant today. All of the principal actors/actresses were excellent. Archie said things that tapped into a lot of people's true (if unrevealed) feelings about politics, race, sex etc. He also said things that made the viewer realize just how foolish one sounds when prejudice rears its ugly head.
The first 6 seasons were phenomenal. Although still a good show, the quality slipped a bit and became "tired" after Mike and Gloria moved away. Archie was at his best when dealing with a foil of sorts: Meathead, George Jefferson, Irene Lorenzo, etc. As these characters disappeared, so did some of the quality. Nonetheless b68for its humor and social relevance, this groundbreaking show is my #1 show of all time.
