Why anyone thinks this is a good idea is beyond me.
While I'm no Trump administration supporter -238 first and foremost, for a parody of an official to be funny and relevant, it has to be based on someone who appears and speaks enough publicly that people can make sense of the parody. Most Americans have never even seen Bannon speak. Yes, you can drudge up YouTube videos of him from several months back, but there's nothing to base a comedic interpretation that people could connect to. Alec and Melissa are playing off of the 2 most visible people in the administration.
Next is the fact that Rosie is not well liked by a 'lot' of people - and I'm not jusb68t talking about Trump supporters. Without a public Bannon persona to base her character on, her interpretation would simply come across as just being mean for mean's sake - something she has done before to her own detriment - irregardless of how much contempt people may have for Bannon.
Regardless of how well Rosie might be able to do Bannon, I think a skit would ultimately fail, and be a misstep for SNL. -

Good points, and I thought of them myself too. He's not often shown publicly so making a parody might be difficult.
I think I based my approval of the idea on 2-3 things:- She physically resembles him in a way. I can certainly picture her with the right make-up to be a pretty good lookalike.
- Trump hates her, he hate1c84s SNL-mockings and he hates women portrayig men.
I think she could be a hilarious cameo though, to see him(her) in the background along with the other characters.

Maybe, but it still sounds more like a reason to force something comedic in that is only political hatred.
I honestly believe that even a large section of Trump voters are able to laugh at both Alec's and Melissa's depictions, as they are still just exaggerations of some of the ridiculous things these guys say and do on a daily basis.
Unfortunately, Rosie has a history of fostering negativity without being funny. It seems a bit too obvious for her to reach out and offer to play Bannon when she sees what appears to be a GOP/Trump hate-fest going on. Unfortunately, Rosie hasn't been funny in a long long time, and I don't think the bit would come across as funny - and something I believe Lorne Michaels is smart enough to stay away from.
Bannon deserves to be skewered, but for a guy who isn't public facing, doing it on SNL isn't the way. SNL is starting to do a good job of actually being funny again, but they don't need to keep going further and further out on these bits. That's what's killed them in the past. -

Even though he has only had one public appearance, and probably won't get many more, I'm certain that Stephen Miller will appear in SNL too. What a lunatic to say the least. Not a role suited by Rosie O donell though.
