A lot of people have died in their 70's or been old then, though many aren't. A long time ago, they died earlier, often, not sure exactly what times, but some people lasted very old.
It seems his health was bad and he was old, maybe something happened. I don't know if it was common. A lot of people's parents are that age, men and women..
