I know what you mean. KT Tunstall actually said she wrote the song "Suddenly I See," about Patti Smith.

I have nothing but admiration for Patti Smith too. She's incredibly talented and has stayed true to herself throughout the years. While a lot of young girls are drawn to Courtney Love (the shallow, posturing side of rock) it's a real shame that they don't get into Patti Smith instead. She's the real deal.

She certainly is! I have been totally in awe of her since "Horses" came out- I saw her twice at LA's Roxy theater, gigs within 3 months of each other. She is so insanely intelligent, articulate and insightful, to say nothing of how much I love her music! She may not be a technically great singer but her voice has always cast such a spell over me.I also saw her a few years back at a convention, she came out and spoke and then later came out and sang with her band. When she did, a bunch of people (including me) ran up to the stage edge. I could have reached out and touched her feetShe is such an icon! I picked up yesterday's NY Times with her on the front page, just for the novelty of it- seemed like a dream!

If more people (especially women) idolized Patti instead of people like Paris Hilton the world would be so much better.

Along with Jean-Luc Godard, Kenneth Anger, Leonard Cohen and Tom Waits, she's one of my few personal heroes that are still alive.

In the middle of reading her book Just Kids. Knew little about her but love Because the Night and she seemed interesting. What a lovely lady she comes across as, very genuine and unaffected.

I totally agree with all the responses on this thread. Patti Smith is the greatest female vocalist ever!
