I agree with just about everything you stated but I just want to make a correction- by definition, Latino is not a race at all, it is an ethnicity. Latinos can be of any race, not just white or native american, though that is still a huge part of our genetic makeup. Latinos can be black, white, asian, native american, etc. My mother is Puerto Rican, and I have cousins that look African as well as cousins that live in Puerto Rico that have blond hair and blue eyes.
For everybody else, as far as Jasmine classifying herself as a black woman, I can't say I blame her for that. It's not like she is totally denying her mother's side of the family, however, she identifies more with the black side of her family.
I can understand that because I am related to her through her Portuguese side. Our portuguese family is white. Though some Portuguese people are dark-skinned, our family comes from the Azores, which are generally lighter skinned people.
Anyway, what people don't understand is exactly how our family isfor example, I have never actually met my cousin Jasmine because when she was at our family reunions, my family was never invited. Why?because my mother was a dirty Puerto Rican in their eyes and they never accepted her, that is, until my parents made money. From what my grandmother tells me, our family was none too happy that Jasmine's father was black, but when she became successful, she was welcomed with open arms.
Coming up from the same family as her, I can understand where she wouldn't exactly emphasize that side of her heritage. I know that when I was around our Portuguese side, I was ignored and looked at like I was trash. So when people ask me what my heritage is, sure I'll say Portuguese, but for the most part, I consider myself Puerto Rican. I can just imagine how she was shunned by our family before her success, so why we would she be all on them after her success? I sure the hell am not. -

Well how about this: you have your opinion, I have mine. Your opinion is that anybody with brown skin is black (which incidentally would make tan caucasians black), and mine is that 2 black parents=one black offspring
I consider a person black, if they have at least one black parent. White people do not have any black parents at all. -

What's really important isn't one's race. After all, we're all members of one race: the Human Race (a.k.a. Homo Sapiens). Jasmine Guy happens to be a member of that Race, and still a very attractive member at that.
Too bad her former husband doesn't appreciate that. -

She is 100% mixed.
Who cares if whites don't see her as "white"? Newsflash: SHE ISN'T. Nor is she black. It's so political of mixed people to consider themselves as one race while totally denying their other half it's an insecure cry for inclusion. -

In today's climate, where anybody with a DROP of white blood (Tiger Woods, Maraiah Carey, Alicia Keys etc.) is quick to say "I'm Bi-racial, not BLACK" and will step out with a white boy or girl in a heartbeat, it's nice to know that SOMEBODY from a mixed relationship is embracing their true BLACK blood. Go Jasmine!!!

Exactly, you can't just neglect your other half. It is awfully insecure of blacks who get all up in arms when people of mixed ethnicities actually celebrate who they are and embrace all parts of them, instead of trying to pacify the black community, be it for political reasons or what have you. Is's a shame.
