Why does everyone keep saying that she looks old?

Agreed; I was shocked and didn't even recognize her at first I just kept thinking she looked so familiar, but I couldn't place her. She definitely looks more like she's in her 50's than 37 in Ray Donovan. Like others, I also came over here to see if others noticed and agreed; that is, after I checked the credits to make sure it was even her. That said, I'm 47 and still find her attractive.

While Katie Holmes is beautiful, always has been, I still must agree with others here.
She looks older than her age. I can almost guarantee a LOT of it has to do with her suntanning.
Nothing ages you more than the sun, and she always had a deep smooth tan.
It looks terrific while you have it, butb68 it ages you BIG TIME!
I Googled 'Katie Holmes Ray Donovan character' to see what you guys mean, and wow she looked bad!!
A lot of it is her hairstyle, what is that supposed to be: Bed-head?
Long story short, she looks older than she is.
I agree she needs a few pounds.
She also looks vacant, I agree with that too. She has looked that way for a long time now, perhaps its depression!
I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?

I'm sorry but with all due respect she doesn't look older, she looks her age, which is 37. People, for some bizarre reaso16d0n, expect her to look the way she did back in the days of
Dawson's Creek
. A 37 year old will not look like a 20 year old,(which is the age she was when she did that show) nor should they have to. I agree she didn't look her best while she was married to Tom Cruise but she looks fine now that she left him and I don't get why there is so much negativity. I'm not even a huge fan of hers but there is so much hate on this board, it's ridiculous.

I think it's much the same thing. She's much too thin and too tanned. When you're 20, being thin = slender. But as you age, it makes you look frail and gaunt. When you're 20, being tan can be pretty. But as you age, it makes you look older, and not just because of the sun damage. Older skin is naturally thinner and crepey, and that's normal. When it's tanned it looks like leather.
Perhaps it's stress, not eating enough calories or nutrients, and not exercising properly? Not sure, but she just looks so thin, too thin, and among other things, she does not look healthy. Someone can be slender and still look healthy, but she does not.
I don't follow her, and frankly am only aware of her because she married Tom Cruise.

Katie has always looked older than she is. She just has an older looking face. At some point, it'll probably start even out, so she'll end up looking younger whens she's old.
My favorite New York moments:

No idea. I think she looks beautiful as usual but I have some theories on why people might be saying this.
- These people have watched her since her Dawsons Creek days. She has always looked young for her age. She was 19 I think when she filmed season 1 of DC and played a 15 year old and literally looked 14/15. She looked SO YOUNG. And continued to look fresh faced and young throughout the entire series. So seeing her now may be shocking to people who have watched her from her start. Watching someone age on tv/movies when they start out already looking young for their age can be weird.
- These people have seen mostly pictures of her only THEN from Dawsons Creek and her early film years to when she was caught all the time by papparazzi after she had a kid and was going through her stressful marriage to douchebag Tom Cruisealso post pictures of the divorce where she's a single mom and looks admittedly stressed out AF understandably so.
But either way, her for age she looks the appropriate age. I wouldn't venture to say she looks young for her age anymore like she did then. but that comes with a stressful marriage, a stressful divorce and being a single mom who cares a lot.
I still think she's absolutely beautiful
And seems like a very, very, very sweet and down to earth person who unfortunately married the wrong man.
I'll admit I am a Dawsons Creek fan (yes, I know) And I am one of those people who dreams of "What if her and Joshua Jackson had stayed together or gotten back together?" Awww what a beautiful world it would be. But then there would be no adorable Suri so ces la vie

She looks botoxed and looks like she had a stroke.
Do you think she still has nice boobies?
I larf in you general direction.

People thinks she looks old because she pretty much disappeared for a deacde. The marriage to Tom Cruise and the crazy cult that is scientology killed her career.
We had seen her as a young woman in Dawson's Creek and then in Nolan's Batman Begins and then poof she was gone after the marriage. So people watched her as a young woman and then back ten years later. So of course she looks a lot older to people. The same way if you see and old friend ten years later

I think you're pretty much right.
I also agree with the other posters. For being 38, she looks like a woman who is 38, which is to be expected to any objective eye. I imagine when she's 48, she'll look 48. Society sees someone like Linda Gray or Ali McGraw who are in their 70's and still super beautiful with minimal if any plastic surgery and moderate amount of make-up, and assume that's the standard for everyone famous. It's not.
I agree Katie does look a bit too thin though. Hollywood and the modeling world seem to still be obsessed with stick figures, sadly.
