Why can't this woman just smile normally?

She conciously smiles like that to avoid showing her teeth. She started doing that weird smirk when she started hanging with Tom Cruise. I bet one of his handlers trained her to smile like that to cover her slight teeth imperfection for photographs. She kept it up after she broke up with Cruise. If you look at photos of her during the Dawson Creek years her smiles were genuine, normal, and adorable.

I also think she realized it looked better to smile that way.
Katie always had a Julia-Roberts-kind-of smile.
They both look fantastic when they smile closed-lipped.but when they bare their teeth they look so goofy!

There's nothing wrong with her. Very immature post. You sound young and very insecure with appearances. What is normal? You think you're normal and perfect? There is no such thing as perfection. Everyone smiles witb68h a grin and shes grinning because she can? I also smile on the side too from my jaw being crooked a little. Unless you want surgery on your jaw, its called accepting and loving yourself. Everyone is born with different jaw lines and different features. She's beautiful in every way and I love her smile.
