I enjoy Bill Hicks too but consider that Joey Lawrence has been working steadily since 1982 as an actor in both film and television in addition to his work as a musician. That's a multi level career of 28 years (so far) made even more impressive when you consider that he's only 34.
Also Hicks was a colossalb68 hypocrite in that he was a salesman who hated salesmen. The product he sold was his beliefs and hopes. When any entertainer performs for an audience they are selling themselves as the product or part of it. It's not much different than a celebrity endorsing a car, a game, a drink or a foodstuff, the artistic merit only makes it marginally better. All entertainment is business, if it was just about the work then they would get other jobs and do it in their free time.
Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence. -

While I'm not a fan (nor do I di111cslike him), but he's doing something right to be in the business as long as he has. As a film geek (more cult films and Hollywood up until the Michael Bay era). A lot of actors either it be cult or at one time mainstream have vanished.
Joey Lawrence is still around. Again he's done something right. Even if everything he did was DTV he would still be a working actor. While the TV show Friends was a bit silly at times the struggles of Matt Le Blanc's character Joey trying to make it as an actor is fairly truthful (well ignoring the silly plots). It's a struggle and well Joey Lawrence still gets work regardless if its DTV, guest spot, starring role the fact he's working he's doing far better than most actors.
