She was extremely high functioning in the early 2000's. She did concerts, press appearances, interviews with flying colors and her grooming and body was perfect.
Then in 2003 during the Dianne Sawyer interview your started seeing some cracks beneath the surface. It was so subtle but it seemed like there might be some mental illness under there. Then wham! She goes completely insane only a few years later. Gets a conservatorship and starts to function a bit better. Now she's out of that conservatorship she's disabled by her symptoms.
I just don't really understand it all. This doesn't seem like bipolar disorder to me, it seems more like Schizophrenia.
Schizophrenics tend to lose their abilities, their personalities and their ability to function. And of course grooming goes out the window. Many become highly agitated as well.
She was once a high functioning person and it's disturbing what a potential very serious illness did to her brain. Drugs and alcohol don't cause this level of deterioration and bipolar is almost never like this. Bipolar people don't lose functionality.
