Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Shania Twain

writing with her on her albums, do you guys think her comeback will be huge success?
Her entertaining aspect is unquestioned. However, I wonder if she will be able to do her old songs, because I'm sure there are so many memories of those songs of her ex Mutt Lange, and I wonder if they will be hard for her to sing.
I am also curious how she is writing music without Mutt doing it with her. I was under the impression that a lot of those songs they wrote together, and he's a genius at song construction, I wonder if she will be able to put music together like her old stuff. Great songwriter, but I do think Mutt being able to put songs together so well helped her immensely.
I just got done watching her A&E Bio. Awesome. I can't believe w.t.f. Mutt Lange was thinking by cheating on her. It's Shania Twain!

Personally, I think Shania is lost without Mutt. She always relied on him for her music. By the time she released Up!, it was clear that Mutt had ran out of ideas for Shania. As a result, she stopped making music. She tried to get the ball rolling again in late 2007, but by that time her marriage was falling apart.
I wasn't happy with Up! because I felt it was too commercial and wasn't deep enough for a woman in her 30s with a child. Mutt was also recycling her sound (some of the music on Up! was similar to some of the music on COO). Shania apparently felt the same because she wanted to take a different route with her music, while Mutt wanted to produce the same old stuff (I heard this through the grapevine).
Its been two years since the breakup, but her spokeperson continues to say "She is writing alot and enjoying her life". I also hear she is relying on Luke Lewis ALOT and is only seeking high power producers, but no one has heard or seen her new songs. She could possibly be a little afraid, but I think it will be a mistake on her part if she doesn't release an album this yeareven if its a Christmas album. Pushing back her album will only increase the pressure.

I liked UP! I think the album was phenomenal. It does have some sounds that Come On Over had, but to me I like that. It felt like a sequel. It's her style. The music is her. You know Shania instantly when you hear it. The tone of the lyrics was exactly what I expected from her. Corny silly nonsense that is fun to sing along with and listen to. Along with a few of her typical "love" songs.

            Up!
just had the right amount of difference.
Plus Shania is a writer herself. Her and Mutt wrote a lot together. Don't you think she would've learned a few things? She needs to dive right back into Country. Its what she was fantastic at. I couldn't care less if she never did another Pop album. Country is where she is at home.

As much as I hate to admit it, this is true. And Shania knows it. In fact I think it's her biggest career insecurity.
Her personal life is fine, I think if she wasn't famous and just a normal girl, Fred would be the love of her life.
But music wise, success didn't come without Mutt. If she releases an album and it flops, it will just confirm her fear. So she keeps pretending to have something in the works, but the reality is there will be no more new material.

Shania was the songwriter, but he got half the money after cheating on her? Can anyone elaborate on that one?
