Teh NWO was more menacing than DX was and they were more powerhungry.

Yes it was. The WWE's ratings were plummeting as the nWo angle was very popular so Vince came up with the DX angle to sorta compete with the nWo. DX wasn't trying to take over the WWE like the nWo was trying to take over WCW, so that's what made DX boring because it consisted of just 5 people (HBK,HHH, Chyna, and XPac with the late Rick Rude as the "Insurance Policy"). Their main target was to take the Hart Foundation out.

DX wasn't an exact copy of nWo but the "cool heel doing whatever they please," angle was certainly a ripoff of the nWo. The same way Umaga while not an exact copy of Samoa Joe is still a rip off, its just the way WWE has always done things.

It's easy to identify DX being an nWo rip-off since the group was formed around WCW's nWo success but DX is more about dark/vulgar comedy rather than the nWo invasion stuff.
How about Goldberg being a steve Austin rip-off. Some people say that Goldberg is really a take on Ken Shamrock.

X-Pac wasn't part of the original Dx. It was 4 guys not 5.
And their main target was not the Hart Foundation. DX was formed when HHH was battling Mankind and HBK was battling the Undertaker. The Hart Foundation was busy with other feuds as well.

Aye, but DX ripped off that anti-authority personality off the nWo, and nWo came
                before
DX so yes, they did rip them off (probably just to try and compete with the at-the-time hot nWo angle which gave WCW the light of day over WWF).

In that case Head Hunter, the nWo ripped off the 4 Horsemen becaue they were anti-authority first.
