      Well said!
I'm sick of reading all the negative comments about Charley on here

I don't hate him, but I think that he creates problems for himself (or more likely his people do)
I like him as a person, and have watched all his latest travel based work, including his latest solo (i.e without Ewan) series. However, if they stated they was doing it to raise awareness only, rather than banging on about how much they personally have contributed, he would get less stick. According to my admittedly rough calculations, we as a license fee payer have paid more than the contribution they will have directly made. Obviously, no one cares about me, so I couldn't hope to do what they've done (i.e raise awareness of the charitable methods that people can use and contribute to) and can only applaud him. Seems like a lovely guy. But there are many, MANY more people who have done a lot more for Unicef, so just do it on the downlow, and don't bang on about charitable contributions. Just do it and keep it quiet - if it's for the right reasons, no-one needs to know.
So yeah, lay off Charley, he has children and a family and this stuff is unnecessary. But Charley (or as I mentioned more likely his publicists) should stop banging the charity drum - it's not improving his image.

As a fan of both Charley and Ewan, not once did they 'bang' on about how much they might have contributed to charity.
The program was never made for the BBC. When they were planning the first trip it wasn't even thought that it would be televised, they wanted to film for their own personal records, two mates going on an adventure. They had sponsorship deals for the bikes, cars and camping equipment.
It also happens that Ewan Mcgregor is an amasador for Unicef so ultimatly is his job to give this charity a high profile. And considering Unicef have no help from goverments, need all the help they can get.
            Spread the love man
Apologies for any spelling mistakes, I rely on spell checks

              How can anyone hate Charley?
So he's got a bit of temper - I sure wouldn't be so even tempered if I went thru some of the trials and tribulations the guys go thru on their treks.
Anyway - who cares, it just adds spice!
As corneliusrobinson77 says, love him or hate him, at least he's sincere.

I am in shock that people come on to hate the man! I am rather upset by that. He has great acting skills and how he chooses to do his Karma work on this earth is not anyone's business if he is not harming them or the environment, and from what I have seen he is FAR from that! I still have almost ever movie he was in, with the Emerald Forest being my fav that helped me through the pain of cancer without resorting to smoking large Hookahs full of Opium for the Gods sake! Some people never get a chance to make a difference and than, when someone does, people b***h about HOW they do it? Pwhaaa! Silly. I hope he ignores the pedantic idiots that hate for nothing more than the power they feel. Can some of them spell jealousy? Keep riding "66" if people continue the nonsense. Ride on.

Firstly i just have to say that i love all of the shows CB has done, (in fact the Long Way series is what made me decide to plan my own 3 month trip next year), and cannot believe what people say about him. Charley is a genuine bloke who HIGHLIGHTS the work of unicef because both him and Ewan are Ambassadors for the charity. Charley did a talk in my hometown over the past weekend and not only was he funny and exciting, he demonstrated an obvious love for what he does and at NO point did he become anything other than a geniuniely nice man who has happened across the opportunities he has.
In fact he thanked Ewan for not deciding to go with another friend due to Charley's financial situation as "my career had been heading south for a while.. i was struggling" (his words not mine!) Charley even said that Ewan sacrificed his privacy for the show and if it wasnt for LWR then he would never have been able to do Dakar or BAM. At the end of the eve he spent over an hour signing books, having photos and when his wife rang he even passed the phone to someone in the line to say hi. Personally i think this all says what a straight-up guy he is.
So why dont all u haters just go away and leave us who like him alone?!!!
"Why dont we just go home.. cos none of us are having a good day right now"

Is he actually hated on some big level? More than any other actor/tv personalities both him, and Ewan for that matter, are seemingly the most down to earth, funny and genuine regular type of guys. Haters are just being cocks for the sake of it.

Wow, I couldn't have imagined there was any hate for Charley on any level, aside from typical internet idiocy. I'm watching
                      The Emerald Forest
for the umpteenth time just now and Charley is just too cool. Tomme FTW.
                      Excalibur
                      is up next.
Charley is awesome, screw the haters.

I kind of feel sorry for Charley. He gets pushed aside whenever Ewan is around and Charley's needs always come second. When Ewan and Eve rode together I could tell how upset Charley was and I'd be upset too if I was him! I think Charley is so kind and talented. He tries hard to make good jokes on the show because he wants to be noticed, let's face it, who'd be looking at Charley when Ewan is next to him?
                            Charley rocks!

Charley is awesome. I'd ride through any third-world hell-hole with him, instead of Ewan, given the chance.
