The only thing that can be seen as a fact is that Alec is left wing.
Everything else you state about him is opinion.
Yes he did kill a woman.
I won’t deny that.
But if it was accidental does the law still consider that as murder?
If it was intentional that has not come up yet and may be impossible to prove. -

How come there are more men on your underrated list, but more women on your overrated list?
A number of actors on your Underrated list had rather large reputations, and it is hard to see them as underrated. -

It has to do with looks for women. Many don't have theatrical training and aren't good at capturing human truth. They are rather artificial.
As for men, I feel the competition is too tough. Some are left out of the discussion.

I think I reluctantly agree.
If you asked me to name my top three male actors I could make a list in seconds.
Top three actresses?
That will take awhile.
Maybe even a day or two.
I don’t mean to seem chauvinistic but like all forms of media it’s a male dominated business.

That's why I don't have "Best Actress of the Decade" or "Best Chick Flicks" lists yet. I just have a hard time coming up with the right ones for the time being.

Well, a lot of males are chosen for looks also. A good example would be Rock Hudson.
I don't think that most considered many of the women on your under-rated list as great actresses. Grace Kelly was a good actress, who was very beautiful. -

Either you don’t understand what “underrated” means or you are changing the meaning.
The majority on this list are very well known household names and are quite wealthy.
I would say a lot of them are overrated.
As someone else mentioned, Keanu, who is a terrible actor.
And Alec, your first one, killed someone that may be intentional.
Or Cruise who is still one of the longest lasting movie stars.
You use the Oscars as a measuring stick for their success.
It’s a bogus and meaningless award where they are judged based on bias instead of performance by an exclusive club.
Or they might win other awards, such as a Globe, and not the Oscar.
There are other ways to measure their success such as box office numbers, how often they get jobs, the size of their mansions and how many they own etc.

Me too!
I dig this guy.
It’s a nice break from the drama and how ironic for a place called, “FILMboards,” movies are hardly discussed.
Last movie I watched was Ma and Pa Kettle for the first time.
I found it to be mostly, “Meh.”
Your recent movies?

As for actors like Paul Muni and Burt Lancaster, they are simply forgotten today. I look at whether their movies have held up long term. Or if the right movies are looked at. Upon research and after seeing them, I found that many are either dismissed or forgotten. You can tell by the low number of votes and reviews on IMDb, Amazon, etc., collectively.
I like to think of thespians as either "movie stars" or "actors." So I'm focused on "acting." That's where my underrated and overrated lists come in play. The quality of acting and how well they capture the human truth and the characters. Nothing to do with making money. The Oscars is supposed to be the gold standard that's based on merit. They failed.
Some actors like Tom Cruise and Sylvester Stallone are being judged the wrong way by only looking at them as "action stars." They actually have acting excellence in various ways, going back to the 80's and 90's. This is 2025. People just don't realize. Soon, it will be 2050. Many will be forgotten, and people will no longer have a clue what "quality acting" looks like anymore.
Others have gotten too many awards in general and aren't good as the public seems to think. For example, Will Smith and Meryl Streep have a lifetime total of 200 and 400 nominations, respectively. And Robert Mitchum? Just 10 despite of having done 100 movies.
Most, which number in thousands, are properly judged. That leaves 39 underrated and 36 overrated. To me, it's a fair number.

Another way of looking at it: I used to think Matthew McConaughey was underrated for a long, long time. I saw talent in him, and he was being underutilized in these stupid romantic films and I couldn't believe the sheer waste of his talent. Finally, he got out of them and did the dramas and more proper genres. People started to notice and lauded him. That's proper recognition. As a result, he's no longer underrated to me.
In the 80's and the early 90's, I saw the talent in Keanu Reeves and could tell what he was capable of. The rest is history: a huge blockbuster star. Not surprised. People still dismiss him as a "bad actor." That's where they are mistaken. I look at his ability to transform himself to be this character or that character and have seen enough evidence. I cannot think of many who could do it so well.
