Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Nicholas Brendon

    calusari70 — 10 years ago(February 20, 2016 09:22 AM)

He is a very talented actor, but because of his drinking and who knows what other issues he has, he will probably never reach his full potential: -(

His drinking did not help but I believe Nick's drinking was more of a consequence of his realization that he was not going to have the same fame as he did on Buffy. It's a universal feeling that hits pretty much every actor/actress at one time and sadly, Nick's case is not an isolated case for actors: His is probably minor compared to drugs and sex and whatever actors do after their heyday.
Now could he have done more roles that utilized his talent? Sure. But he got old (was 32 when Buffy ended) and if Nicholas Brendon retired after Buffy he would have given us (the fans) enough for us to be happy. He was the heart and soul of Buffy and you cannot say his career was dead after that: He did have numerous lead roles in movies (albeit B-rated and TV movies) and those aren't just handed to actors, believe me. Let's face it: Most actors are usually known for one or two things at the most: It's rare you are remembered for 1, 2, 3, or 4 roles: Nicholas Brendon is known as Xander and that is it. I can name a hundred actors and more who are known for one role: I could also name a hundred other actors and more who would have loved to be remembered for one role and are not.
Instead of lamenting about Nick's career, we should celebrate it: His Xander character impacted my life in a positive way and so did hundreds of other fans I'm sure. Not many actors can do that with their chab68racters and Nick succeeded in that. I noticed on his message board you have all these doom and gloom posts: Geesh, lighten up Nick is doing better now and you can follow his Twitter or Facebook account. I sincerely believe his dark days are over and even if they are not, just think of the people he has positively impacted and hopefully Nick can think of that as well.

32 is old? Are you 10? What an idiot.

So he pretty much played himself in the movie Coherence. In that movie, he has a drinking problem and he gets violent when drunk.

                How is it NOT sad?
So what you're saying is, just because he had success earlier in is career means he doesn't deserve any sympathy now that he's hit rock bottom? Sure, the only person he can blame for his arrests is himselfbut can we not feel bad for someone who is clearly extremely depressed and going through a very dark period in their life? Nobody is perfect, no matter how successful they are/used to be. Everyone will go through a rough period at some point in their life, and sometimes things spiral out of our control. He simply needs help.
