Exactly - if only Highlander had come earlier, like with Bond, but Brocccoli committed to Brosnan who I like very much but I think he stayed on too long and Gerry missed his entry there Butler was never offered Bond though rumors swirled and he was struggling and had no heat on in his London flat at the time he said. Daniel Craig - I like Casino Royale but Bond could have changed hands for me after he did 2. Scottish Bond harkening back to Sean Connery would have been so awesome. I keep thinking it's too late for Gerry Bond, but it's rumored Idris Elba Bond and I'd love to see Idris but he's in his 40's too Brocccoli producer family said to be ultra-conservative so maybe Gerry too brash & for Idris passed over - a new hashtag #BondSoWhite

Timothy Dalton being one of my fab as he was on of the first dark Bonds just like the books
I don't think Idris won't be Bond, Daniel has said he has got another 2 films left in him at least

What??!!! I heard Daniel is done, and was hoping he'd go back to dramas which he's good in. I guess I'll have to google if they are looking for a new Bond. Last movie was a disappointment for me. I liked Timothy but his movie didn't perform and they hit eject. Sean was brunette too if that's what u mean by 1st dark Bond.
Let's spread word for Highlander Gerry - if they go big enough budget they'll need an international star like Gerry. I think his ask is $6M. I'm sure he's getting more than that to come back for Angel Has Fallen and Millennium wants him rather than young replacement tried that with Transporter 3 without Jason Statham and that didn't work out. WISHLIST for Xmas Gerry turns down Angel sequel to launch Highlander returning to his sword action roots of 300 and Attila and Beowulf. John Wick director loves 50+ Keanu Reeves who does amazing fast action and is back for another. So they're not guilty of ageism.
That said, on here u can see Gerry busy with a couple projects and his passion project is Burns - period bio on great Scot poet Robert Burns. Check board for JoeVinds recent video interview with Gerry on who he wants to play. He hasn't been able to get financing. For Highlander with drama/action he could get greenlit for period drama Burns much tougher.
Gerry could use Highlander drama/action chops as stepping stone to finance drama/romance Burns. Someone send him the message!! Stat. -

I remember reading a poem by Burns in Honors English in high school but when Sister asked us to select a poet to write about, I chose Rupert Brooke and Wilfred Owen whose work has stayed in my poetic heart since then- perhaps I should have paid more attention to Burns!!!! Ha
From what little I remember of Burns he died before he was 40 I think. You know it doesn't matter how old an actor is as long as he captures the heart of whom the person is. In seeing Crowe as John Nash it never occurred to me to question Russell's actual age. Writing poetry can be pretty (cinematically)undramatic and I'd interested to see how he will handle this
It took Scorsese nearly 30 years to bring Silence to the screen , so it may take him awhile to achieve such!
Highlander with Connery/Lambert- my mom and I watched so that we could hear Who Want's to Live Forever- and I've heard Sarah Brightman perform it a few times

UMMMM Both his Bonds films The Living Daylights $40 million budget- Worldwide Gross $191.2 million + Licence To Kill $32 million and worldwide gross $156.1 million so both films were hits -Don't know where you got that from and knew as a kid they were box office hits not including VHS sales afterwards back in the 80's which they sold many more afterwards
The reason why he didn't do Goldeneye was cause he broke his leg and took to long to heal so he didn't want to do it in the end fact

The most recent movie that I saw starring Hilary Swank was called 'The Homesman' (2014). She was a pioneer woman in one of her best performances so far. IMO she's such an amazing actress in everything she does.
I also watched an earlier British TV mystery recently with Daniel Craig. It was called 'The Ice House', based on a novel by Minette Walters. DC was a lot younger, but he was always a really fine actor.
Perhaps Gerry, at this stage, could take on the part Connery played in the original 'Highlander'. That part seems more age appropriate for him IMO. BTW what's with all the recent fake(?) reports that he and MB have split for good? Are Gerry or his PR people playing some kind of game just to get media attention? Especially as photos have just appeared of them currently together in NOLA. I gather that some of Gerry's fans are getting a bit fed up with all the so called 'mystery' LOL. Although, aside from some die hard fans like Geefu, does anyone really care anymore? Oh, well, here's hoping for 'Keepers'. Here's a little trip down memory lane with lovely Gerry
BTW does anyone here like Catherine Cookson novels? I'm currently enjoying all of the TV adaptations of her books on Youtube. Such top quality productions, featuring some terrific British actors, including some familiar faces, e.g. a very young Catherine Zeta Jones.
Speaking of terrific British actors, I'm afraid I've lost it completely for that Captain Flint bloke - every time he stands on deck and bellows 'FIRE' I just about lose my cookies, he is so incredibly manly and so human and flawed in every sense. The poor guy is doob68med though so I guess the Cpt. Flint effect can't last much longer for me LOL. Such a fabulous role for an actor and I will miss him so very much. This character really got to me, especially going into season 2. This beautiful Leonard Cohen song 'Avalanche', featured for Captain Flint at the end of season 2, actually gave me chills and made me cry buckets as performed by Nick Cave and I just have to share it here
I also found this gorgeous short Flint video by 'Opera Ghost' who also makes videos featuring Toby Stephens in other shows. That name seems a bit familiar and makes me wonder if she was or is also a Gerry fan? -

Hard to say. It seems they are friends, breakup or not. I feel sorry for Morgan. He shows her no respect, and he comes off as a user. -

Note the cool fact Timothy was recruited after Connery and Before Roger Moore! Dalton was in his 20's and turned it down feeling he was too young! Damn young fool. Dalton could have had 7 Bond movies like Roger Moore had.

Craig got 89% with Casino and 86% with Skyfall his two I liked most. Spot on.
Brosnan hit high of 83% with his 1st Goldeneye then got hammered in the 53-41 range.
Dalton was consistent with his two Daylight at 66% and License at 60% popcorn.

It doesn't matter about Licence To Kill being lowest bond film for 6 years as it was still a hit so that is irrelevant!

No License was lowest grossing Bond movie EVER. In the Bondverse (which is really about money c'mon) that's a fail. He did not hit the 80+% popcorn unfortunately
IMO not via RS which I don't subscribe it was my recall of the vitriol against Dalton heard around me - I found Rolling Stone article for you to back me up since you didn't believe me that men called him dull. Maybe it was an American man thing - or California thing. Are u in UK?
Highlander - don't know whether to be depressed or excited if Gerry takes the older Connery role - do you think Gerry would do that and it might work better? If his own fans think he's too old, he's in trouble.
It's been ages since - must watch HLDR again. Basic concept is good but I think they'll over-action it - hoping to get male intnl audience fanboys and beat the life out of it. How to avoid that trainwreck happening? It needs to be like 300 meets Braveheart or Rob Roy man on emotional mission which drives the sword action, not just gory heads chopped off without heart involved. A LOT WILL DEPEND ON THE WRITER imo.

his time might have come and gone to be considered as 007- seem to recada0ll round the time Brosnan was winding down his name might have appeared on a list of potential replacements
considering Mr Filp Flopper Craig may appear twice more (somehow I doubt it would be two films-given the general releases of 2-3 years, Craig would be nearly 55 (that's assuming he does Bond 25 with filming by early Spring to make a late 2017-early 2018 date)
at Butler's current age it's unlikely he would be cast-
re:Highlander- I enjoy the John Wick films- Not pretentious just a really fun ride.
From what I remember McLeod was searching for the mortal woman he loved. Would the director keep that framework or would it evolve into a typical HW action film? I suppose Butler could fill Connery's role but then again sequels/reboots don't always work and since peeps are saying Butler's career is nearly in the toilet.
would love to see him return to the DearFrankie/The Jury types of roles
Lately he seems to be more known for his stupid love life than his work.

Thanks Robyn!! That was absolutely fantastic. I posted to Twitter - like a therapy - "now we ALL must stop taking ourselves so seriously!!" Could that sum up Gerry really well? Have not seen cover interview on Butler in long time. So som5b4ething's giving in his career. Years ago he said he took things too seriously. But he's older. Maybe that's why he doesn't give a crap about pap PDA photos cause you only live once on the beach and why he'll do Angel Has Fallen sequel since Millennium wants him to but he'll get tarred and feathered by some fans on here before, during, and after it premieres.
Olympus series is his Bond like it or not. He's so identified with it, I think he won't get or do another series (Not Highlander even). Fortunately he backed out of Point Break remake so give him credit for that. Could be better that he has to do original material - and if it gets fanboys then there's a series.
Does anyone else think there's a certain credibility and prestige to taking a fresh role that has no following and imprinting it by making it successful? Versus an already famous role with fans? Thoughts? -

it depends on what role/ one-off vs one or more films continously running as in the Marvel cinematic Universe you are concerned with- originality has gone the way of my friendly neighborhood Brontosaurus! ha
in Hollywood its all about sequels/reboots/franchises either established or just rounding into shape and as I have said before it';s all about making money/banking profit.
there is room for something new or original- is it an idea that has no forerunner, no precedent or is it merely a new twist to an old tale one that most people might not be aware of?
It's in the presentation of the idea- how its conveyed that makes it unique.
re:Butler
For myself he's not a bad actor- every actor has mistepped- made a crappy movie or two. Franchises if successful get the bills paid, allows one to live the sort of life one has always wanted. Sometimes it allows the actor to do something close to his heart because he has the clout to do it , taking a chance that might not be afforded to him otherwise. For some actors make their mark early on and as they move thru HW, choose scripts they are comfortable with.
Of the actors (Hardy/Cumberbatch/Crowe/Hurt/DiCaprio)whose work I admire they have done so many varied things that when they fail, its not a major setback.
I wonder why it is Butler has never been offered a for lack of a better word-a comic book character. Why hasn't he worked with the Spielbergs/Nolans/ Eastwoods of the world? Villenueve/Howard might be interesting directors for him to learn from. I don't care much for Scorsese but if he's directing Leo or Neeson, I'm so there and he has not disappointed me
Every actor aspires to something different. What that might be for Butler I can't say. Perhaps he can bring Burns to cinematic life before he outgrows the role to be a reasonable enough facisimile of this poet. Who knows and who can say
Sometimes Butler reminds me of the second stringer who comes in /plays well over the course of a few games , returning to the bench when his set of skills would be ineffective or longer needed

I'd love to see Butler work with Denis Villanueve he's so sensitive to his actors and the experience of sensations he used all his prod. budget to create the actual chamber on the alien space ship in Arrival - just so his actors and he had that to draw from, and refused to make it all green screen. I loved Arrival, but a 2nd viewing made it clearer for me about Amy's visions and why she's in the dark herself until the Act 3.
Denis is a real artist it does take an actor to a new level.
Gerry could still play Burns for some time! though Burns died at 40, I read it somewhere that Burns looked actually 70 by that time from drinking, dissipation, alcoholism, and let's face it, health care back then was nonexistent. I'd have to google again to see if my memory serves me. But that gives Gerry a time to do it. The bigger worry was the "young man Burns" which I believe is in the script Gerry wants to do. At a certain point, need a younger actor to do it.
I'd be interested in a movie about Burns' later years only too, anyone else?
I'd love to direct a project about poets, the artistic communication of language I think of all art, painting and film and poetry as language communication.
Poetry is so internal it's a tough sell for international audience. How did you like "Bright Star"? about John Keats, young romantic poet dying young and his true love.

I have a new discovery in Aidan Turner from "Poldark" on BBC. Are you a fan? Another Actor to watch. Turner was a dwarf I was drawn to in Hobbit and I nearly died when they killed off Keeli/Turner. Why? Why? I was mad. But that's good. A reaction.

Btw, your Q I love Arrival - saw 2x to see it again with Amy Adams and director. Even Better 2nd time. Got it all.
And Nocturnal Animals I'd see again love the story within story but it is harrowing to watch. A real thriller, like this could happen to you.
That's the kind of revenge-thriller action movie Gerry should find. NA is killer but it has meat. It makes you feel helpless just like Jake's character felt.
Gerry getting "Keepers" has everyone on this board doing high fives for now. I will look for the script but never found one for Burns.

Craig is currently off Broadway in a very modernist take/severely limited run of Othello. I attended the Broadway version some years back with James Earl Jones and Christopher Plummer (It takes a lot for me to give a standing ovation but these gentlemen were richly deserving), then watched the film with Branagh and Lawrence Fishburne.

I thought it was announced they're looking for a new Bond, or that's what friends have told me and the internet went up with rumors of a cutting edge more controversial and modern Bond Idris and Matt Bomer were rumored. or is that all over with?
I'll also throw in my hat for the Welsh actor from Hobbit and Fast and Furious and the latest Dracula in Dracula Untold Luke Evans as Bond.
Glad you're well. Losing people is the worst and inevitable, which makes it something we must accept. Hilary taking time for her family member, that's really nice to hear. That's sort of where I am too with my Mom. Must find time for film and art, my creative loves too. And we all worry about Gerry maybe he's just a kindred spirit who's always in trouble who maybe hasn't 'grown up' the way women want him to and settled down (which I don't think is necessarily a mature thing if you fear you can't hold a marriage together it's better to be honest about it because that is really tough and the damage often isn't pretty), but he has shown vast improvement since his staring at random women days. This is why I don't subscribe to Canberry2's "beard" theory. I don't want to start a flame war with anybody, and everybody is entitled to their own opinion but I was on the receiving end of the Gerry stare-down at the RockNRolla premiere in Hollywood years ago, just handing him my 300 DVD to sign it, instead he held my DVD and did his staring thing. So I am 99.5% sure he's not gay and doesn't need a beard, because I don't work for him, I don't know him, I wasn't paid by him, I said nothing to him, there was no camera on us (I was standing with the fans 20 feet down from the red carpet and he came over to sign even for all us late arrivals on the end of the street). This staring thing really got him in trouble on TMZ where they made a spoof of 300 calling it 300 Girls when he was out at clubs staring at women and they drew laser beams and arrows to the woman's belly. That was a career killer. The pap photos are PDA and I think that's just really him he's "fresh" and grabs ass. Cheeky, literally. Can look tacky, but hey, at least he's stopped staring! Improvement. Step at a time.
I don't see Gerry getting married by any stretch. He's like Clooney was for years. Yes Clooney had a pivot, but I don't think it was planned. Keanu Reeves talked about kids and marriage so everyone expected him to but nope. And then people wanted to say Keanu is gay for that reason. Hey, marriage is tough. I haven't done it myself, and frankly I'm afraid to. So I can imagine what they're thinking in their public career situations.
In an interview about living here, Gerry said American reaction to staring is different than home since Americans go "what's the matter with you?" You're rude. He learned something and stopped.
He's moved on to his girlfriend babe PDA, and Gerry will lose some fans who go 'ick' but I'm thankful he grew out of staring at women he doesn't know which TMZ crucified him for. Yes, American men can stare too but it's more subtle.

I liked the film Othello with Fishburne. did you see Macbeth with Fassbender and Cotilliard? Good too. Are you in NYC? I loved seeing Proof and Phantom of Opera on my trips there.
So Daniel Craig is a Shakespearean like Timothy Dalton did you like Dalton's Bond? I thought Timothy gorgeous and he could really act but fanboys, fo1354r instance my brother, did not like his classical air.

missed Fassbender/Cotilliard's Macbethwhen my mom was alive, we had wanted very much to see the original Phantom with Crawford/Brightman but were unable to get tickets so we went instead to see the film version and were pleasantly surprised at how tender/vulnerable Butler was - my mom always said he had a nice body and he does haha
I travel to NYC to attend the theater but haven't been in awhile nothing I've wanted to see but would kill to see McKellen/Stewart in a play
Was fortunate enough to see the full text w/Fiennes as Hamlet and gosh he was beautiful yet when he opened his mouth it was like he was running to catch the subway! but he was pretty effective
my mom always enjoyed the BOnds more than me- her fave was always Connery w/Brosnan a close second. My dad thought Craig was not bad in Casino Royale and for me Craig was best in Skyfall
