He's in the very first episode of "Love American Style" from 1969 and I was struck by how dark and handsome he was. I'm only familiar with him from "Mysterious Island" from years ago and my interest has been renewed again. "Love American Style" was a comedy of short stories and I was impressed with his comedic flair as a man caught between his fiance and ex-wife in a funny predicament. So here I am looking up his film work.
I am surprised he doesn't have much posts here on his message board. I see there's some negative talk about him from some book someone's brought up. But it doesn't matter to me. I love the stars but I'm never going to meet them so whatever they do I don't care about.
Looking forward to seeing more of his work!

In her book, From Ballet to Batgirl, Yvonne Craig (his co-star in Love American Style) comments on Callen's talent and his sadly over-looked career. She writes that he should have been another Jack Lemmon.
p.s. Look for Cat Ballou, he's great in perhaps his most memorable film.

Yes, it's a pity there's so little commentary about him. He was a gifted actor and a critical part of one of the great ensemble acting teams of the sixties: the cast of Cat Ballou.

I just saw an episode of Love American Style that he was indressed as a woman! I recognized him right away from my childhoodthat's the kind of impression he made on me! I always thought he was really sexy. (Yes, even as a young girl!) He had a certain somethingWish I could see him in West Side Story on Broadway!

Yes, and SOOOOO sexy, charismatic and gorgeous! He has always been one of the few actors I wanted to see MORE of on my screen than some of the others that you see over and over and over again. Also, I always thought he added so much to Cat Ballou. He created an amazing character. He was all I usually saw in that movie. My eyes didn't even see anyone else, except when he was in a scene with Jane.
