Why is The Office recasting Pam's mom?

I thought she was great in the brief appearance she made in "Sexual Harassment." She seemed sweet and like a genuine motherly type. But news is out today they are searching for a woman to play Pam's mom in the upcoming season. Seems silly and the lack of continuity annoys me.

shannon Cochran is currently onstage in a production of August Osage County. I imagine she was not available when it came to shoot The Office.
