Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Bradley Cooper

I find it stunning that people are having trouble understanding this, but when an actor plays a role, he pretends to be a different person. That's the job. George Clooney is not really an emergency room doctor. Denzel Washington is not really Malcolm X. Harrison Ford is not really an archaeologist or a spaceship pilot. And Bradley Cooper is not actually a sniper, any more than he is really an ill-tempered space racoon whose best friend is a tree.
Here is a very experienced actor to explain the principle to everyone who seems to be having trouble with it:

And Bradley Cooper is not actually a sniper,
The problem is when they get paid millions of $ to glorify guns and violence, have enough money to hire security to guard them and their family using guns, and then tell people they shouldn't have guns.
Same thing when they boast about having an electric car and chastise people for driving SUV's and the such because of how bad it is for the environment - and they just made $10 million for starring in a movie which wrecked 10 cars, had numerous explosions and are flying all over the world in a private jet (as well as riding in a limo) to promote that movie.

Zimmerman is less of my hero than a pedophile like Polanski is yours, you little pansy pedophile.

So if Cooper had portrayed one of your heroes, such as Che Guevara or Fidel Castro, and then supported Donald Trump, would you be saying the same thing?

Are you talking to me? (It is sometimes hard to tell in these boards' "nest" format.)
If so, why would Che Guevara or Fidel Castro ever be my heroes? Guevara was a thug and hypocrite who let his ideology justify his own crimes and the crimes of those he supported. Castro was a totalitarian dictator whose policies were a disaster for human rights and free speech.
But if an actor played one of them and then supported Trump, I would not consider that a contradiction, since only one of those things (his real-life personal support of Trump) would be an expression of his actual personal opinions. The acting would just be
                acting
. Would I think he's wrong for supporting Trump? Yes, but because Trump is clearly a crazy person, not because o5b4f any role the actor had played in the past.

And yet he is no more crazy that Hillary. I'm not a big supporter of his, but she is EXACTLY what is wrong with our country. Politicians who believe they are entitled to everything they want, taking millions and millions of $ from corporations and other countries and giving those companies and countries special consideration in return.
She's also a great example of what I'm referring to about actors hypocrisy. She calls herself a feminist, but instead of leaving Bill, she stayed with him even though he continued to cheat and sexually assaulted women.
That goes to her character, or lack thereof.

I cannot believe the amount of political responses that are relating an ACTOR to a ROLE. It's like saying Sir Anthony Hopkins should be a cannibal. Insane.
