Well if he ever change facial expression more, it would risk being overacting. There were so many priceless shots of different expressions.

I agree. If you don't like his acting. Don't watch the show. I am glad they gave him another shot on tv. He does change expression but when needed. Not every single comment needs an expression. I am sure if you watch carefully, you (as in people in general as well as yourself) don't give off expressions every single comment. If he did that would be way too much overacting as stated.

Hey metalmentality, I agree with you 100%. I think Jeffrey Donovan is a great actor, he plays Michael just right. Those of you who don't care for his acting should see his previous work. He is very good, his Michael character is very different from other characters he has played in the past.

I, personally think his acting is brilliant because of how he portrays his character's personality: Resourceful, charming, smooth, etc.
and also all these great lines he says. Oh wait he's not the writer, is he?
You know about as much about writing as you do about acting.

What are you talking about??facial expressions are not the only thing to make a good actor, this guys is charming! oozes charm and his expresions makes that charm gold.
You are drawn to look at him and thats what it makes 'it' interesting.

I disagree. The fact that he can go from serious, to funny, to deadpan serious/sarcastic in one shot is amazing. Very few are able to pull that off and look sincere, most LOOK like they're acting.
That sounds like a dumb statement, but I critique a lot of stuff, and can't watch a show when I am AWARE it's a show. Maked sense?

Couldn't agree, more, MagentaMSI. He's one of the very few actors out there who so completely becomes the character that you forget there's an actor there. His roles have been so totally different and yet each one completely believable. Maybe it's not the actor that the original poster doesn't like, but maybe the character Michael Westen rubs him the wrong way. If that's the case, then JD should take that as a compliment. All you have to do is look at Michael Westen of Burn Notice, versus David Creegan in Touching Evil, or Cal Percell in Come Early Morning, and it's hard to believe they're played by the same actor, the characters are so different. And it's not because he's using makeup or anything to change his appearance, it's all in his portrayal.

I actually like Jeff Donovan's acting. Maybe it's the script, but he makes that character come to life. Similar to Bruce Willis when he played in Moonlighting. He fitted that role perfectly and Donovan does the same as Michael Weston. He has charisma, charm and a way of pulling the right strings to get the job done. What I think makes the show fun is his in between voice-overs that explains how things are and what needs to be done. In last night episode he was explaining how to make bombs to blow open a door and blind unexpected bad guys. Having Bruce Campbell on the show immediately lifted my interest. Having Bruce Campbell on any show is a plus to me. He's just a great comedic actor. Even in shows like Xena: Warrior Princess and Jack of all Trades, he was a riot. Cameos in the Spiderman movies didn't hurt either. I just finished watching Bubba Ho-tep and thoug1c84ht it was great. Burn Notice is doing great in the ratings, so I'm hoping it's up for another season. I'm going to keep watching it and definitely get it on DVD once they start releasing each season. "Heroes - season 2" starts Sept 24th. Mark your calendar.

Jeff's acting for Burnnnotice is different from his other roles in so much as we get different personas within the overall main character of Michael- for example so far we have seen the rich Southern gent, the rich European, the double agent, the good ole boy and the thug- so some off it comes off as unbelievable and some of it comes off as absolute hilarious and some a little stiff.
Check out some of Jeff's other work say in Touching Evil, Pretender, Hitch and the St Germaine character in the 2nd season of Witchblade. I think watching some of Jeff's other work will give you an appreciaion of the wide variety of stuff and some of the over the top facial cues in Burnnotice

I love this guy's acting. I like his range of expressions, and his narration throughtout the sequence. I do NOT think he is being overexposed, as the show is engagingMy favorite series on tv these days.

R U actually watching this showat all?
He not only changes his expressions a lothe can convey something just with his eyes.
Part of his character is to watch, but not be noticed (spyremember?)
so sure, he has to downplay at times.
But please don't tell me you've never seen that great smile.
As for his voice, I'm guessing you are talking about the narations (since he has used numerous accents).
Yes, it is clipped. But seems to me that the over-articulation not only makes him easy to understand, but also sets a tone for the entire show.

I think he's really good. It's his character-a guy who tries to be tough all the time but can't resist flashing a huge grin when he's outsmarted a villain or occassionally lowering his guard for just a moment with Fiona. I love the show and can't wait for Season 2-almost nine months away, it's

That's ridiculous. The two characters were nothing at all alike.
Jeffrey Donovan got his MFA from NYU, the most prestigious and difficult to get into acting program in the U.S. People like Philip Seymour Hoffman came from there. Donovan's emphasis was on dialects and he's a classically trained and accomplished Shakespearean actor as well. Maybe you just don't like him for some weird reason and are trying to blame that on his skill set, but that's not gonna fly.
