Could be the first black James Bond

Completely DISagree.
As any fully informed James Bond fan will tell you, Ian Fleming was an apologist for British imperialism and the hegemony of the white man. He was motivated to develop the Bond character precisely because of his own low morale as self-style member of the postwar British elite. We NEED to subvert his apologia for British empire and the "white man's burden" if we want to call ourselves true democrats, and what better way to do that than to cast a classy, smooth, intelligent, charismatic black man as Bond?
Perhaps it is unfair to say that only white supremacists would be incensed by such a tweaking, but certainly 100% of that group would be, while those of us who appreciate the semiotics of Bond would thoroughly enjoy the parody. -

Chiwetel Ejiofor is British. Born and raised in England.
Or, let's remake Shaft as a white guy, I'm sure no one will bitch and moan like the whiney pussies that they are about that decision
Newsflash: Shaft was originally a white guy. -

In a recent interview Naomi Harris said producers of Bond met with Idris Elba to discuss being cast as the next Bond. I for one would've loved to have seen Chiwetel as Bond.
Chiwetel's got the looks, the charm/suave/sex appeal, and he's tough and can put up a good fight. Idris is a wonderful actor and I'm sure can fit the bill but in my opinion tries incredibly hard to be sexy which is a little bit of a turn off. I dunno. Just my 2 cents.
In other news, can't wait to grab my tickets to go home to see Chiwetel at Young Vic in Aim Csaire's 'A Season In The Congo'. -

never saw that one coming, but that is an awesome idea.He certainly has the presence and the gravity to pull that one off. Also, considering that other members with '00' clearance are showing up, maybe he would be an ideal nemesis for the current 007

Oh goodness I hope not.. I am a huge fan of his.. but I am also a fan of Bond. That would be a terrible move. Some things are best left alone.. That would be like casting Shaft white or Superman Chinese Bond is Bond.. Introduce him as another 00. Create a whole new character.. He'd be great but not as Bond. I think both he and Idris Elba to name another black actor bandied about as Bond are great actors but they will never be Bond.. Of course they could pull off the role!! It isn't about them or their acting chops.. It is more about the Character.. It was the same with James West.. bad casting.. the movie was bad enough as it was but Will Smith should have never been cast as James West..

So because I do not see this the way you do I am a racist? You are the one making it a racist issue and frankly you do not know me enough to call me narrow minded or racist. There is nothing racist about me or what I said. As I sated in my previous post.. for me FOR ME .. certain things particularly when it comes to long standing characters .. like Bond.. like Superman.. like Batman.. things of that nature even in the case of television characters like James West or James T. Kirk etc.. some things are best left alone.. and as I said.. it is more about the character .. not the actor. You may take it however you want to, I really do not care as I do not know you, nor does your opinion of what I said matter very much to me.. and frankly neither of our opinions will amount to much in the bigger picture because regardless to what either of us think the studios will do what they want to do and bad casting did not start nor will it end with Bond. As I said.. I think making Bond black would be a bad idea mainly because the character is too well established.. .. just as I think making Shaft white .. or Superman Chinese or the Mandarin white as in the case of the recent Iron Man film.. would likew111cise be (was) poor casting (In the case of Iron Man I won't even comment on the way they totally ruined the character in the film as opposed to the original story line.. aside from the casting..) so you are entitled to your opinion on what I said.. but you do not know me therefore you cannot call me narrow minded .. or racist and have it mean anything more than your own misinformed and totally irrelevant opinion.

Well, I obviously hit a nerve (chuckle). But plainly, if you didn't care, as you keep insisting you don't, you wouldn't have lashed out at such length and with so much anger.
So funny that bigots consistently proclaim they're not [racist/homophobic/antisemitic/etc.] while adding to the evidence that they are. If race didn't matter to you, you wouldn't think twice about a popular figure being portrayed by a black actor. You can't defend your discomfort with a black actor playing a popular hero other than to say (again) "some things are best left alone" an utterly meaningless comment you can't substantiate. Why is a white Bond/Superman/Batman better to you than a black one?
When you make an issue of race, as you have, and present no legitimate reason for it, which you haven't when there is no logic behind your thinking then yes, you can be called narrow-minded and racist. -

Umm. I have not made race an issue.. If I am not mistaken that was the title of the thread and it is a comment on a film forum.. not a political treatise.. As I stated several times (but you refuse to hear what I said and insist on hearing what you want to..)this is not about the actors or race but about the character and it is my opinion, which I am entitled to and which says nothing about me except for my opinion on the portrayal of longstanding characters in film If you want to read more into it than that that is of course your prerogative. As for lashing out.. Are you kidding me? You call that lashing out..? ROFL ok You are entitled to your opinion as I am entitled to mine.. but again, you show your ignorance by calling me a bigot based on my opinion about the portrayal of a fictitious character in film while knowing absolutely nothing else about me.. I am sure all my white, Asian, Hispanic and Native American friends .. not to mention any of my bi racial grandchildren or their white and Hispanic fathers would have a different opinion and since they matter and you do not I will end this now as I cannot in good conscience continue to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed person.. I will say however .. on the subject of Bond.. that so far Daniel Craig is the best Bond I have seen (outside of the man himself Sean Connery) and I hope he does a few more Bond films before he hangs up his PPK.

You came back here to say the same thing again, adding your version of the "some of my best friends are minorities" rationalization. (Says much that no blacks appear in your list of minorities "friends". Now why would that be?) You say no black actor should be allowed to play Bond, but that sentiment "is not about actors or race
(Oh?
)
and it is my opinion, which I am entitled to and which says nothing about me." You think your racist opinions say nothing about you? Well, you bigots certainly won't take over the world with your brains. -
barrybass — 12 years ago(May 21, 2013 05:22 AM)
You idiot I Am black. Read what I wrote and figure it out. I never said no black actor should be allowed to play Bond.. YOU said I said that.. What I said was, and pay attention here and try to wrap your mind around this concept whether you agree with it or not, just so you can fully understand what it is I am saying to you was that in my opinion certain characters should not be changed like Bond and some others and frankly I think that whole idea of "Oooo let's try to repackage this with a black face.." is just as insulting as saying a black actor cannot play certain roles, which again I never said.. I said that IN MY OPINION AND IN THE CASE OF BOND AND SIMILAR SUCH DECADES LONG ESTABLISHED CHARACTERS IT SHOULD NOT BE DONE. That is MY OPINION which I am entitled to, and that opinion only makes me racist in your stunted little mind. Why do we need a "black version" of things.. surely there are enough talented writers out there to create decent screenplays for some already established black characters.. like John Shaft, Alex Cross, Easy Rawlins or John Luther to name a few.. that we don't need to repackage already established characters in black face just because it is cool. If a studio decided to do that regardless to what I think about the idea, I would still check it out because I like Bond.. but I would rather see newer characters more firmly established in the same manner in which Bond has become such an icon.
