Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Jon Favreau

    superman_tk_49 — 14 years ago(June 21, 2011 06:59 PM)

Lets face it, Jon Favreau is a terrible director. Iron Man 1 and 2 could have been made by anyone and Robert D would have saved the day.
His direct to video knock off of Jamangi was visual pollution and so where his previous efforts.
Give him a movie where vision is needed and his career is over

and unfortunately while you're here on imdb posting about his horrible directing skills, or lack there of he's "inability" to direct a movie is making him the big bucks, but such is life.

I would not have given movies like Iron Man and Elf to just anybody. Michael Bay would have turned the former into complete beep and, without a director, there's never anything stopping Will Ferrell from chewing the scenery and turning that movie into the Santa Clause Part 17: Yeah We're Still Trying to Take Your Money.

Zarutha and Elf was pretty entertaining so I don't know what you're talking about.

Made, Swingers, Elf and Zathura are all well directed!
Made and Swingers are personal classics in which I discovered Jon Favreau and Vince Vaugh. They have sealed places in a collection.

Agreed, but Favreau wrote (not directed) Swingers. Love the guy anyway haha

Given the (even more) generic nature of most movies like the ones Favreau has generally given some semblance of style and fun to, I'd guess the OP just has crappy taste. I mean, does he prefer Brett Ratner? Probably.

What an utter load of boll ox you speak. Obviously you are totally ignorant to what actually goes into directing a movie. Of course not all movies that Jon directs are great but he makes more good ones than bad. You really need to keep quiet rather than prove what a tool you are.
